Re: Mithril Painter's League 02

Good morning maese Milo!
Is it possible that you forgot to shake the pots? looks like you painted those reds with a lot of medium and a little pigment... Maybe the pots just got separated and with a good shake problem will be solved... if it is a long standing there without using, maybe pigments have fallen down to the bottom of the pot... If it's an age issue I would throw them away or reuse as a base to paint miniatures and buy some replacement pots. sad
Anyway seems that you got a nice faded palette too!! I will put mine advancements later today or tomorrow. Have done some freehand on the cape and worked on the sword and arms.

I feel you are right, I must shake harder before throwing these pots away.

Re: Mithril Painter's League 02

Well my freehand was quite "simple", just echoing the sculpt on the cape, and making a second line underneath the first one. But I think it is more than ok for just a regular elven Nargothrond warrior tongue
I put together a step by step. To do this I used the points technique to distribute space more uniformly. (I stole this technique from here: http://powellminipainting.blogspot.com ) and it's the first time I use it.

I would like to see other's advancements too! C'mon share your works wink

When was the ultimate day to send in the pictures ?

@Gerold: We are all here to learn, show and improve this is almost more about sharing our processes and learning from each other than a mere and plain "silly" contest. wink
@Turambar: WOOOO impresive!! I knew you were going to amaze me! I love that art noveau look! may I ask how you did it? Is it pastel or pencil? because it does not seem brushed on....

Re: Mithril Painter's League 02

Thanks gentlemen for the kind words. Very entcouraging.
Master Maenas, it is brushed on. With a "two-haired-brush"- as I call that "thing".

(You need also some strong drinks - three in the minimum!- BEFORE the start.)

As you know I paint with oil colours. I try different kind of "liquids" to make the oilcolour that thin that I need for those thinny lines.
Everything didn´t satisfiy me. So I made the decision some time in the past to use acryllic paint for those "freehand" work,
as I can fill it up with water as it is liquid-like as water. You have got more to say coloured water.

The oil colour has got some kind of a greasy surface. So the almost waterlike acryllic paint has got problems to stick (covering power).
If you have a closer look you can see some disruptions in the lines.
But- as it is a 32 mm figure which is standing somewhere it is absolutely alright, in my oppinion . . .

Those disruptions teased my eye into thinking it was not brushed on!! wink
And they look more than right in my opinion!!

Re: Mithril Painter's League 02

I'm keen on seeing the final pictures of all the figures here. So far there were just some pics provided showing work-in-progress. As for all those details of the coats I could see here: fantastic painting-skill quality. - Which supports one of my arguments for not taking part in the Painter's league here wink

Re: Mithril Painter's League 02

It's always acceptable, or as you might put it, Master Milo, very wise to give in to priorities. I'm sure that Mrs Milo's family will serve you a nice third breakfast, which Zalg is not able to do. Good choice you made, dear Hobbit.

It is a niece who was born yesterday. Everything is fine, Parents are happy and Uncle Milo delighted !smile

Now deadline extension is better on my side. I will be back to paint as much as I can.

Re: Mithril Painter's League 02

Well, Master Turambar, I think what you, er, "produced" there is simply magnificient, one might also call it marvellous or even spectecular. But I wouldn't have expected a lesser quality. So all in all, a very fine work you do present here with also providing a great quality in picture-taking or photography.
