Corsairs

Click to close

Well as the comp has been extended and I'm an impatient sort - not at all Entish roll I thought you might to have  a sneak peak of the Corsairs.

Hope you enjoy (and I've still got a bloody big ship to crew!!!) neutral

Re: Corsairs

You know ddaines, I am truly impressed with your work! It must take a lot of time to come up with the dioramas you make. Great job once again! Keep up the great work!big_smile

Re: Corsairs

superb ... so it leaves me considering painting corsairs providing them with a diorama  though I really cannot haste it  ... superb, I said ...Master Ddaines .. but what do you mean with that being "not at all Entish" ? ... anyway, keep on, please ... (I simply forgot about all the adjectives I should have used to comment on that pic.) .... rhuooommm ... marvellous ...... hom  ... could be another word for superb ....

Re: Corsairs

Thank you for the kind comments, it makes the effort all worthwhile cool,

What I meant by not being very Entish is that I thought with the original deadline all the entries would have appeared on the main Mithril site, but as the painting comp has been extended for a month, well I couldn't wait that long to share the pictures so I just had to post one.

Hopefully it will inspire others to get the paint and brushes out as these little chaps really are nice.

Re: Corsairs

I also really do like all those details ... except the fact that someone got lost of his cudgel wink
Please let me ask where's that boat from?

Re: Corsairs

Well Master Ent the cudgel had to go as that particular Corsair is pulling the boat in and tying it to the bollard (I'll post some more images from different angles), and although it doesn't show up too well the rope goes around his back to that hand.

The boat is in fact a small scale Viking ship made by Drakkar Oseberg (I might have chucked the box but that name is on the plastic sprue) which has been chopped and changed.

Originally I brought them (unseen) for The Fellowhip's Elven boats but they were a little too big, fate perhaps.

Well here is my 'action shot' for the contest.  I didn't bother to do much here.  A friend took the photo with a camera which cost more than most cars I've owned!

Re: Corsairs

Like all your other painted minis I saw before, I love the way you give them colour!

Re: Corsairs

Absolutely great work. David. Respect!
I also like the way you're considering details. E.g. that Gondorian spearman is holding exactly the right shield, being from South Gondor.
Thank you.

Re: Corsairs

Great stuff there Ken - well that's two of us, lol. I think the background scene on the main pic really sets the scene and does it for me!

Anyone else going to send in a picture?

Re: Corsairs

All very nice indeed - way superior to my 'bulk-production' wargame-army painting skills. Which is why I haven't enetered the competition - I know my place in life (lowly barkeep etc), and have no delusions of artistic competence! Great work, guys. The subtle differences in style are fascinating.

Re: Corsairs

Ahh Master Zoetrop is back!
By the way it is a painting competision not a diorama building competision.
I guess it will be hard for the judges to find the Master Painter.

Re: Corsairs

Oh, sorry, Ken, I mixed up your name with David's in my last entry ... sorry. But everything I can see here is first class, of course including Zoetrop's versions.
I will not take part for two reasons:  my skills cannot match with you three, and well, on the other hand there's not enough time.
But what about Wendy? She's a brilliant painter.

Click to closeHere's M473.  And a note about dioramas.  I don't do them either for my Mithril.  My pictures are just sand and a few odd bits of scenery

And here's M479.  Most of the rest of the series looked to me like they needed to be on a ship and there's no way I could have made a nice picture without one.  I know that there are plenty of good painters out there...any other takers for this gallery?!

I don't know about brilliant...  big_smile

I was too busy getting ready for a bigger painting competition over here that was this last weekend (which is where I've been for the last few days).  Mithril was well represented at the show, by the way, at least by me.

Good luck to all who entered the competition.  All the figs look great!  smile

Re: Corsairs

Wow, these are some amazing images. I am a little envious that I couldn't enter (was too poor - and Imrahil was my priority). But you guys would have blown me out of the water. I'll probably wait till after the Knights of Dol Amroth come out to go get myself a Corsair set (and their admiral).

Still: bloody awesome, folks.
