BARD of Lake-Town (M235)

I think that it's not useful to present here this great character of "The Hobbit" !
some pictures would be enough!

Re: BARD of Lake-Town (M235)

nicely painted indeed! which leads me to ask a question. about his eyes, one of them seems  blank did you make him one eyed, that would be odd?

ah, that eye!!!
the bowstring is too thick in my opinion, I've tried with a different material than usually.... but I'm not convicted.roll

Re: BARD of Lake-Town (M235)

You´re very prolific, Master Sam Wise (and also a good photographer, very nice pics)

Like a lot the colour schemes you use in your minis, very naturalistic, and the little details, like the bow´s string. Your style also fits very well on mithrils, soft and a bit dark. And finally, the digital effects and the bottom scenes give a lot of personality to the complete picture.

And now, allow me some little criticism, some things you should improve:

- A bit more of contrast (shadow/light), to give definition to the whole.
- A bit more of cleanliness (for example, the belt)
- And remenber that trying to paint the eyes in all the mithril miniatures can be counterproductive to the final result. Mostly of the miniatures work better just with tiny clear lines, and no pupils

Re: BARD of Lake-Town (M235)

1-Many thanks to you !

2-Master Elroi: special thanks for your comments and your constructive advices!

I'm a "young" painter (but an old guy hmm) and since I'd begun, I've always tried to improve.
The shading is one of the point that I'm working, but I've seen too much painted figures with "over-shading" that I don't like.
I try to imagine how the light is supposed to go on the figure and try to give the effects that it could do really.
Even if sometimes ( some large ranges of 1/72 figures for example ) I use Citadel washes to work faster,
when I paint a 28/32 mm single figure, like this one, I work differently, just with paint.
It's a little bit more difficult and "time-eater" (?), but gives me another pleasure.
I'm exigent with the colours because I think that it's important for the final result.

For the eyes, usually, I don't paint them but with figures on this scale, I've tried to do.
The result is not completely satisfying, you're right, but who never try, never succeed !smile

I've just finished the Great Goblin* (a little bit against the "Star Wars-Jabba the Hut-Great Goblin" of "The Hobbit-Movie"! tongue),
fortunately, he don't have eyes which must to be painted lol

....Well, sometimes, I'm a little wordy, I stop my blablabla!wink

Ok, that`s very important. The ambition for improving is one of the keys to achieve better and better results in every miniature painted (other is to search lot of information: tutorials, videos, step by step processes, etc

Note that I didn´t mention the shading itself, but contrast. You can obtain a very bright miniature and a high contrast at the same time. Are different things wink

One tip to this: just use an artificial ligh (led, traditional bulb) very close of the miniature, in the direction you want the light. Take a picture of it and you will have a very useful and visual guide to paint

The washes are useful for some things but, in general, you can obtain very better results working with paint. Obviously, you have to spend a little more time

Absolutely agree, it´s important to have a previous idea of the “final aspect” of the mini before starting to paint
