Re: Painters League

Soooo to keep things moving and lively!! let's start to discuss the next contest !! ^^

Do you want me to throw a dice against this listing, like I did last time? or do you prefer another method?
Also before the theme is selected, it would be a great moment to make additions to the list, so suggestions are most than welcomed, let's leave a one or two weeks spacing between the first league and the following one, so we can discuss and comment without haste and maybe in this period of time the following list can grow little bit.

I also think that the 2nd contest should allow for people to have Christmas and all those family and friends compromises without messing up things too much, so I would say let's start the second league on December 1st. and end it with the endings of January on 2016 so we'll have plenty of time to scheme and plan ahead.

1. Ladies and lassies of middle earth
2. Maya month, and it is not the bee!
3. Trolls or the thing you don't want to face in the night.
4. Fighting dudes, like in the batman tv show or even better.
5. Ringbearers, Hey I did wear it, you don't?
6. Black is the absence of colour, or the Nazgul month
7. Manly men, or how to wear a long beard and it's multiple uses League 01 October - November 2015
8. Mikea or middle earth furniture, plants and nature friends
9. Plate armour, is it a myth or not?
10. To the spears!! or the month of the rider
11. Are all orcs green?
12. The third breakfast or how to became a good hobbit by "the attic warden"
13. Is it hot down there? or the "southern thing" month
14. To elf or not to elf or the "do they have pointy ears?" month.
15. Postcards from middle earth, or which vignette I choose for this month?

That would be a little bit irregular.... xD

Seems that there's a bit of consensus about rolling a dice will wait a little bit more for it though.
If you have a desire of adding items to the list please go forward!!

Re: Painters League

Sooooo to not losing interest let's roll a dice!!!

And the fortunate number is: 9!!! Plate armour, is it a myth or not?

So here we go again ^^ this time the general idea is to choose a miniature with extensive areas of metal, does not matter if its only chainmail and greaves (like any of the rohirrim or this lr17) or full plate armour (like m271), and neither it matters if it's allignment is for the "light" side or the "dark" side. So we got plenty of references new and old to choose from, in fact there are so many that I will start the "painter's League 02" thread on the first of December for everyone has time enough to choose a reference. There will be time to paint it until the 2nd of February (extra weekend to finish it).

And since painting a mithril sometimes could be pretty fast, it would be allowed to enter the contest anytime between the 01 of December and the 25th of January, as long as we get provided with the mandatory starting point pic and at least another one in between the start and the finished picture.

This time I would add a simple rule with the unique intention to maintain a little bit of uniformity: No mounted references would be allowed.

So again to sum up:
Mithril painter's League 02, contestants list:
Plate armour, is it a myth or not?

Re: Painters League

Ahhhhh- well done.Master Maenas. A good way of falling- as far as the dice is concerned- or what is the right wording . . .
King Ostoher . . . fits perfectly I would say. A good choice, Master Orc.

So- in my case I only have a look at my "corks". There is a figure standing for a really long time.

It is the following miniature: M239

It will be somekind of a re-paint and paint-project. It is one of the first figures I painted using oil colours.
That was somewhere in 2004. I never finished this miniature. So THE chance.

Re: Painters League

@orc: I think it fits perfectly since the upper part is a full plate if I am not wrong, if it's not then I would choose another reference that shows a little bit more metal.
@Turambar: I love that reference, it's one of my favourites!! It has so many possibilities!
@milo: I am happy with the roll too... there is plenty of possibilities, in fact there are so many that maybe we could repeat the theme again in the future if this league lasts long enough wink

Re: Painters League

Beautiful selections!! I like them all ^^
I almost chose that M93 too Milo, but I finally decided for a Noldor (My heart is on the light side with mithril miniatures) but there were a couple of big dark side bosses in consideration too weathered armour calls me there.....

So far so good:
Plate armour, is it a myth or not?
1. Orc: MS589 King Ostoher from Cardolan
2. Turambar: M239 Orodreth of Nargothrond
3. Ddaines: MS534 Isildur and the One Ring
4. Milo: M93 Zalg the Goblin-King
5. Maenas: M247 Elf-warrior of Nargothrond

The title of the contest is just a funny way to refer to the plate armour/chainmail discussions we have had a lot of times and if they were supposed to exist on middle earth and at which age they were implemented or not.
In fact it's just an excuse to paint a miniature with a majority of metallic surface whether it's chainmail/ringmail or full armour it does not matter.

Re: Painters League

Soooo again the end of the 2nd League is approaching so I gathered up our "themes" list again, so in a few days we can start the third edition.
I really wish some more people join it, as it is not just about skill, but to listen, learn and share opinions ^^

I had an idea for a couple of "themes" more so I will add them to the end of the list, and remember that you all can make suggestions and give opinions (in this thread please) about new themes or contest mechanics! wink

1. Ladies and lassies of middle earth
2. Maya month, and it is not the bee!
3. Trolls or the thing you don't want to face in the night.
4. Fighting dudes, like in the batman tv show or even better.
5. Ringbearers, Hey I did wear it, you don't?
6. Black is the absence of colour, or the Nazgûl month
7. Manly men, or how to wear a long beard and it's multiple uses League 01 October - November 2015
8. Mikea or middle earth furniture, plants and nature friends
9. Plate armour, is it a myth or not? League 02 December 2015 - February 2016
16. Fresh and new, are those new sculpts sharper? NEW
17. A woman with chickens or "the civilian" figure month. NEW
18. A Christmas Carol or the "let's paint a Christmas figurine month" NEW
19. The mithril phantoms or the Ghouls, ghosts and skeletons month. NEW

Edited to add an original idea by orc (19)
