Re: The Battle of Mirkwood (The Woodmen) First photos

The cats are rather well fed. Also spoiled. They've been getting soft food as bribes while the massive messy plumbing job was going on. Now they want it all the time.

The stray grey cat (who is possibly a sibling to the two younger cats we have) was sent to a new home, where he's very happy.

Our cats are being very, very clingy right now though smile

The lighting is all a bit rubbish - it was late by the time the kitchen was painted, but I was bored.

Alas, the orcs spent time in the old vault, so their paint jobs have gotten horridly dirty and dusty. Can't quite figure out how to clean them. I suspect it will involve Q-Tips and water and time.

And one last shot.

Going to take some shots for the Mithril website tommorrow.

It looks like you have two converted orcs in the last picture. Behind the trolls but in front of the other orcs. Please show us more about them.

On closer look it is some orcs from PA684. They do look good among those Mithril orcs.

Re: The Battle of Mirkwood (The Woodmen) First photos

Oh man, found these pictures on Google image search. I really miss those Mirkwood (and Angmar) orcs that were stolen.

Going to sell off a pile of GW figures so I can afford to replace 'em. Alas.

Really a pleasure to see your orcs again Gavin. I still feel sorry about your loss.
If you are after mithril orcs again, I would be happy to help. Just let me know.

Re: The Battle of Mirkwood (The Woodmen) First photos

I might just take you up on that offer.

But first, the rather endless task of cataloguing all the figures I want to sell.

Since my future movements may involve me either moving across a continent or even an ocean, I am keenly aware of the need to reduce my collection to the essentials, and by essentials I mean Mithril and the best GW figures. I have three big storage cases and two smaller ones. I want the collection to make me happy and my painting time to be better spent than "this army needs 36 more Moria Goblins..." ack.

I also really want to get back to painting for the purposes of photography.

Soon. Soon! Maybe. smile

Like the bases too - bases are not one of my strong points (which is why I have yet to finish many of mine).

Re: The Battle of Mirkwood (The Woodmen) First photos

One thing I've settled on, for basing, going forward is to use metal bases for plastic miniatures, and renedra plastic bases for metal miniatures. The Renedra 25mm bases are light, and less likely to chip. I also need to experiment with varnishes.

I've painted a pile of miniatures for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that sort of fell apart, I varnished them using commercial varnishes. The effect is not subtle, but it does the job. For Middle-earth miniatures, however, I demand a bit more subtlety.

Another issue you can see with these pictures above is that I used heavy fender type washers for the horse bases. This is a wise and rational decision...if one isn't planning on moving one's miniatures anywhere, like, say, across a continent twice. And maybe a succession of apartments. The heavy bases make transportation difficult and tends to end up bending the horse legs and chipping the paint badly. So...replacing them all with renedra plastic bases. And then repainting them all again.

I'm currently, very slowly, painting for OtherCompany Warg riders between more needful things. I hope to finish this batch over the weekend, and get another half dozen done before the end of the month, before moving on to other things. I am finding the plastic renedra bases to be useful for those too.
