Sorry, I'm not here at the moment, but I'll serve you as soon as I am. In the meantime just pretend that I have. I'm actually upstairs painting at the moment - miniatures, that is, not the walls.

You're never wrong, Master Thingol, so I must be the famous Innkeeper. I'll check in the mirror next time I get a chance - just to make sure.

Huoommm .... ? No one around? ... rhuoomm ... let's see ... huoommm ... no ox on a spit, no bear in the Guinness, no fancy umbrellas in the glasses ... huooommmm ... that's fine ... okidoke, Man in the Shadow, I did see you, but won't tell .... hooommm rhuoomm ... what about an nice Sunday-afternoon-riddle ? ... hoommm ... about trees, of course ... err, I leaf out some names, but who leaped into the tree ? ---- Now the text:

'Come hither, conastoga,' said [-].
'Well, well, well,' said the [-], coughing importantly, 'We are a bit out of season, aren't we?'
'We're just passing through,' said [-]
'No matter,' said [-]. 'Plenty to see, plenty to see. On the left, your petrified tree, to the right your Echo Rock and your Natural Bridge, and just ahead your Old Wishing Well.'
'We've come from Doria,' [-] continued.
'We're on our way to Fordor.'
The elf blanched. 'I hope you've enjoyed your visit to Lornadoon, Land of Magic,' he said quickly, and handing them a sheaf of folders and pack-horse stickers, he leaped into the tree and slammed and bolted the door.
'These are troubled times,' said [-]

So, who leaped into the tree and what are the names of the others?
.... rhuoommmm .... huoommm .... this one is better than a crossword-puzzle, isn't it? ... huom

Re: The Taproom

Pentel the elf leapt into the tree. I think. And the "others" in the quoted passage are Legolam and Arrowroot - all from "Bored of the Rings", of course. Must read it again some time. I seem to recall it being infinitely silly!

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... right, Master Barliman, though now I got you ... rhuoommm ... though you said you were upstairs doing some painting, you really took a time out in your library ... huoom ... but who can tell where you really spend your time ... err ... and who wants to know? ... this is the Pony, isn't it? .... rhuoommm ...
As for the text, I think it's worth reading it again and doesn't take much time ... though in the excerpt I chose there was no Goodgulf in it .... rhuoommm ... alas, you were right and wrong at the same time ... huoomm ... Pentel it is, but who is Pentel by the way? .... rhuommm ...

Re: The Taproom

Hello Master Ent, nice to see you here; we just missed master Milo and Thingol; I was going to invite them for a beer, but they were gone before I could. Perhaps you'd join me for a long draught!

What?? Master Tree is gone now too? I must be getting slow in my old age.

Well Barli, I see now that you are on. Five of us in 5 minutes, yet who knows what rooms you are all in. Apparently no one hears me bellowing from the Tap-room!

That's easy, Master Tree, he's a felt-tip pen.

Re: The Taproom

Hey, we could have a record here for the number of people online at the same time. Or not... But it deserves a drink to celebrate anyway. I have the time - there's only one eBay item I have to bid on tonight, and that's not for several hours yet.

Re: The Taproom

I will buy a round of drinks for all who are here, whether in this room or not.

What a great group of friends to toss a mug with!
