The gallery is again a wonderful job, Gildor. Especially the little note of the figures´ identification on the bottom is brilliant ! Good to have you !  big_smile

Re: The Taproom

Sorry to have neglected to comment on the answers to my earlier query regarding Gollum's colour, but the dratted 'subscription to this topic' device clearly isn't working again - this keeps happening, and I've no idea why. I shall have to start just checking in all the rooms occasionally instead, but it's a bit hard on the old shoe-leather!

Anyway, thanks for the comments. Clearly no one has any better idea than I have - though I like Ken's solution of painting his various Gollum figures in various shades so that at least one of therm stands some chance of being right, regardless of lighting conditions! Bearing in mind that Gollum/Smeagol was originally a hobbit himself, I guess he should really be the same colour as other hobbits, albeit perhaps rather paler since he never gets a suntan. Ergo, I suppose he should be light/pale rather than black/dark.

Re: The Taproom

It's astonishing to see that this month's Fellowship "finalists' include a Silmarillion figure - I imagine this confirms that, once again, The Man had no part in the selection of the contenders. It also confirms that Michael isn't, perhaps, as much of a JRRT enthusiast as the rest of us, or presumably he'd have known better!

This is a big mistake, no doubt!. However, it seems that is not highly valued by GF members. And then, above, It would have the problem of license. roll
We must give a vote of confidence, sure they have a lot of work as Chris both Michael wink

Re: The Taproom

Did anyone (except our wise ones konowing almost everything concerning Mithril figures) notice that:

The Battle for Helms Deep

seems to be the next M-release!!

It's the first prize of the painting competition. The website to find this information is:
http://www.mithril.ie/painting_competit … oth09.html

Scroll down and you will see it!
I am curious what this figures will be. Orcs with torches? Orcs with dynamite, more heroes of Middle Earth???

Re: The Taproom

A voice from a dark corner says: "Good eye, ESTEL!"

There are some who might ask why Helms Deep? Haven't those figures been produced already? Well, I suppose there may be some who have not, such as Elfhelm and Grimbold, who I've suggested in the past when vignette's were allowed. And perhaps those who desire to have an Eowyn posed with Aragorn may see their wish--we shall see.

Re: The Taproom

I wish I'd know there was more time for the painting comp.  I rushed finishing like you wouldn't believe.  Ah, who'm I kidding.  I'd have just procrastinated more.  As it is, there's some touchups to be done before bringing it to my next big show in April...  (Gotta bring at least one Mithril per show but this one will have a bunch.)

Funny, all three entries have a cavalry charge with the basic colors (light blue on the knights and darker blue saddle blankets) being the same.  I was going for a more orc damaged, burned out scenery though.

Hehe, I think I'm at a disadvantage because I only painted three.  big_smile

I don't think so, as your pictures are much better than mine and your paint job is extremely good and clean.
Funny, that there are 3 prizes and 3 entries. Maybe Mithril should do only one painting competition a year and not directly one after another in short times. That would give a lot more the chance to send an entry.

Re: The Taproom

Battle of Helm's Deep works for me. More Rohir warriors is a happy thing for me.

Might help if Mithril promote their old Helm's Deep series while they are at it.

I want

Now, that being said: the entries are superb. Hard to choose a favourite between them. I bought two Knights for the competition. Later, I realised you need three. Alas, I realised that just as the contractor was getting into full swing on the room, so I had no time to paint. And this is after I gave up the first time and stripped the figures. Indeed, I came to the conclusion that the Knights all need to be bought unpainted. The details on the mail is just too soft to undercoat them normally. And a lot of the figures had moulding issues that needed dealing with by filing off undercoated metal.

Then, finally, I undercoated the figures using Vallejo plain black paint. This was a bad idea. The black does not adhere as undercoat. The paint started crinkling.

Mucho frustation.

So much so that I am busily painting a GW Rohir battle company and no Mithrils this week sad

better to have some Isengart-Uruks (no common Orcs!!) and some men of Orthanc !! Maybe Chris could mix in some of the old Half-Orc-Army figures. Orcs with fire of Isengard is great! I hope to see some Dunlendings and Orcs with 2-handed weapons, nice to slash Rohir shield walls, and yessssss give us bowmen of both sides and other Rohir heroes, never made. Hohoo, I can now fill in my large Helms Deep fortifications. Ups, money?? Yes there was something like that...

Master Estel, you've been peeping at my emails from The Man, I think! But you may have to be patient for all that you're hoping for. I can say no more.

Re: The Taproom

mmhh some of us here seem to are in the privy of the Man more than I thought possible. I was aware for quite some time about the Helm's Deep release but could not say a word about it. Actually I did not ask for any other details to the man maybe I should , at times smile He only informs me on the "curiosities" and rarities but not on the regular releases. Well I have tons of figurines still unpainted and I begin to lack place (with the baby arriving in some months...) I wonder where and how I'll manage to put all those figs... more than 450figurines yet to paint...omg... i'll be dead for decades before all of them are painted... I hope I'll be able to pass this passion to my son.

Re: The Taproom

As we all know by now, The Man can be both eclectic and erratic in who and what he shows to whom! I suspected all along that I wasn't alone in having an insight into what was coming. I've actually had a picture of all the figures from this release for several months, which I still can't show anyone (which is very exasperating!). But one has an obligation to honour The Man's wishes. Happily it seems likely that everyone will get to see them very soon now - if they're to be the DA Painting Contest prize one can only suppose that their release must be due very soon.

Re: The Taproom

A small reflection roll
Mithril already given on Helm's Deep figures. The release of another serie on Helm´s Deep, I think that can only be understood in "commercial" terms. We have seen other measures such as discounts or fewer figures. Can we be before other action against the "crisis"?
This series may like a lot of people in the world of role or wargame and much remains to be exploited in the world of The Hobbit and LOTR instead of repeating theme wink

Re: The Taproom

mmhh, what should I say to that. Of course, some Uruks or Orcs with torches or dynamite-balls, like Estel prefers, should be great.
And of course: Rohirrim! Especially Rohan Archers are more than welcomed; as Gavin I love those Rohan warriors. (and there is only ONE archer, still . . . ).
But, the Tolkien univers (only concerning The Ring and The Hobbit in this case) is that heavyset, that I am a little bit dissappointed of that release. sad
Where are those Easterlings? Where are those Variags? Where are those warriors from Dale?
I really hope, that there won´t be another m-release this year contains the "hobbits from the shire".
Let´s hoping too, that mithril holds on to their brilliant standard and that The Man did his job well, once more . . .

Re: The Taproom

There is a long saga of production complications behind the absence of the Easterling release. I remain hopeful that they'll emerge at some point, but it may be a while.

More to the point, I'm surprised that anyone is disappointed with news of the Helms Deep range. OK, I'm a wargamer, and thus find more use for orcs and warriors than hobbits and elf-maidens, but any release of figures designed by The Man has to be a good thing.
