Re: The Taproom

I remind you that there is still a vote for Michael (and possibly also that of Chris). They tend to vote at the end. Although there are deadlines for voting, Michael always said the most votes later is better than a suggestion with few votes. wink
I do not care who wins. The truth is that Arvedui takes many attempts and deserves to win now. Other times I voted because I love it. Beechbone is new. And as seems to have been well accepted one really wins in the coming months ..... I hope ....roll

Re: The Taproom

Do we actually KNOW that The Man and Michael vote? Personally, I would still deem it unethical to vote after the official end-time, whether I'm the webmaster or whoever. If you aren't going to adhere to the end-time you've set yourself, then what is the point of having an end-time at all? - which I admit, I've sometimes wondered when I've seen winning figures beaten long after the closing time...

Yes, Barli, you are absolutely right. I would not like the idea of 'illegal" or unethical votes. If Chris is the one who has the last word (spoken officially) in case of a draw, it's o.k.

I mentioned earlier. According to Michael, to have a maximum number of votes of the members. Don´t limit votes to have a term vote fixed-immovable-inexcusable....
Anyway this is not a horse race at Ascot where they says: "No more bets" ...lollol

Re: The Taproom

I repeat, Master Erchamion, votes should be cast within the designated time-frame, otherwise there's no point at all in setting one. It's how all voting systems work, except where voting is rigged.

I am almost certain that Chris and Michael have the final "tie-break" votes. They may even have weighted votes (more valuable votes). Such arrangements are common in private voting systems such as members only clubs, company boards and so on. And since this is a member's only club (of sorts), then it makes some sense.

Re: The Taproom

Fine when there's a tie, but when there isn't I would hope that it's the 'members' rather than the 'officers' who decide the issue.

Re: The Taproom

well we'll see what Michael says and how the things turn out until the vote is closed...

Though I admit I could quite well be disapointed if, Beechbone gets more votes and wins over Arvedui after the end of votes... I'll be happy to see a Beechbone indeed, as I like the suggestion too.... but that would once again prove the vote rules are not enforced at all...  that would be sad...  (it's not because the current votes in several countries worldwide are quite cheated and it's commonly "accepted" lately in many countries that we have to accept such a lack of seriousness even if the votes are not soo significative for our day-to-day life smile

Re: The Taproom

well it seems a new password has been set for the GF board as I can't access it at the moment... Well it's cool that Arvedui won, I will try to contact Chris to pass him my idea and your ideas about the palantir to be included smile

I think that it could really be a very "emotional" figurine, like we haven't seen many since Helm Hammerhand.

Re: The Taproom

nothing against Arvedui, a nice mini to fill in the gaps of the Angmar/Arnor series, BUT:
what kind of voting system is that if an employee of a company decides, what figure has WON????? it has not WON, it was decided.

I do not like that, 'cause it is not democratic. GF's have decided, that a witch king wins, o.k. even if I do not like 1000 of figures. But sometimes if there is a draw, I think there is the necessity of another voting of the 2 winning suggestions.

Just my opinion as living as a free man of the Free people. What do you think?

Re: The Taproom

well honestly I both agree and disagree estel smile

You are right, they should not say if it has won or not... it was voted, period.

on the other hand, a draw can only happen if defined by the rules of the vote... In this case, there was no draw at all if we consider the rules...
At the precise time of the end of the vote decided by those who organise the vote, there was no draw, so it's difficult to call it a draw if people vote after the time allowed.... Doing otherwise would not be democratic either... Now if, at the end of the official time there had been a draw... I would prefer having votes until the draw is broken.. by the voters... but doing so may be dangerous if there are no more people who will vote....(voting may be a duty in real life as well as a right... but here I doubt the notion of "duty" is remembered)

Now if the rules were changed to 'vote will stop when we have gathered enough vote" without a given date... that would be different, and actually I'd have nothing against such a system smile

Re: The Taproom

But who would decide when 'enough votes' had been gathered? - that would take us back to somebody having to decide who wins (by deciding when to close the poll) rather than it being decided by the casting of votes. No, keep to a set closing time and keep things simple. It works in democracies all over the world.

And as you say, Master Gildor, Arvedui won by having more votes than anybody else when the polls closed. Let's have a drink to celebrate his victory!

Re: The Taproom

and as democracy stands and as I keep saying Arvedui is not my idea, I welcome any "detail" suggestion for arvedui to pass on Chris when he'll begin sculpting it smile I had already begun describing him, along with a palantir.... I'll send him this description in mail... I'd like this figurine to be a strong emotional one... to justify the reference name "Last King of Arnor"

Re: The Taproom

Hi folks!

Congrats to Gildor and the King Arvedui,
I think it was the same thing with him as my Lady Celebrian...

Suggested and suggested and suggested again, the time was for him now,
and it was me who gave him the 13th vote to break the tie before official ending.

Not my usual way, but this time I saw that my Bombadil had no chance.
So the support was for you, Gildor.
And I think that Mike spares his vote for such cases, for he quits the votes.

I think that the ent will easily win soon.

I wonder also about running times of the votes, but please folks,
remember that Mike is very busy and there is not only our club
that he has to take care about, as I have seen when I visited the factory.

Cheers, Halbarad II

Re: The Taproom

No, not entirely asleep (well, Nob may be, but I'm still here - albeit down in the cellar brewing some more of my famous XXXX scrumpy).

I guess the problem is that there's nothing much for anybody to report at the moment. No sightings of upcoming figures (except for the very promising MX pictures), and no news leaks.

There are some nice Fellowship suggestions being put up again, though. I have to confess that I still haven't put one up myself, because I can't immediately think of a 'single figure' suggestion that hasn't already been suggested, now or before. The one or two figures I can think of are mounted, which means it will be a while before I can suggest them!

Incidentally, has anyone else noticed that the Last Alliance website has gone belly-up? What's that all about, Master Gavin?

Morning all.

Got myself a letter from the Government of Quebec the other day saying "hey, we like you, silly Irish person, you can stay in our fair province and we'll even put a good word in for you with the federal government."

So...looks like I might be a resident of Canada come christmas!

House still not sold, unsurprisingly. Should have another viewer next week.

And I still haven't sent Master Tree his Canadian Tree Juice.

Do you want it with maple syrup or without?

And what about the Last Alliance website while you're around, Master Gavin? Do you know owt at all? It's worrying when any LOTR fan site goes AWOL, even if it does belong to 'the enemy'!

Re: The Taproom

Ehm, yes, Master Tree, I intend to send you some Canadian Tree Juice for all one's pancake needs.

The Last Alliance was owned and hosted by a bloke with the username Mithareon. Mith quit his site after many years of dealing with it. He seems to have just shrugged and kept paying for it, but didn't actually do anything with the site. He also didn't share any of his admin privileges.  So changes people wanted with the site didn't happen. Anyway, a few weeks ago, the thing went down and didn't come back up. Turns out Mith just stopped paying the bill for the thing. I suspect he probably pre-paid for the hosting each year and didn't have the money right then.

At the moment, some of the staff have secured funding to get the site back running. Ownership has been transferred, but they are still waiting for login information for Mithareaon.

I am not involved in any shape or form, but that's the scuttlebut.

As for the cats...

Well, once again we have a fourth cat. Again, this is clearly someone else's cat. We put up a sign at the shop, but no one's called looking for her. And once again, she doesn't much like the cats who live here.

Anyway, we'll have to find a home for her soon.

Cats number 1,2 and 3 will be coming with us to Toronto and then on to Vancouver or Halifax. The random stray cats of East Farnham will have to find someone else to bug.

However, its interesting-  now that the missus doesn't spend as much time at her parent's house, cats have stopped showing up there. Now they show up here instead. :p
