Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

So I'd better keep my eyes closed on such brainless ideas about the outward appearance of the Dwarves, as it is about to spoil my imagination of Tolkien's Dwarves in the Hobbit already ... what a mess ... unbelievably ridiculous that is ... full stop

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Thanks for the pics erch.

I agree with you Master Tree, they should at least have stocky builds, full beards, and appropriate weapons (for Dwarves).

Bofur, Bombur and Bifur.... or Fat Viking ( look like Obelix )... Russian miner and whaler with a harpoon....

I really hope that all other dwarves activities will appear in those films much closer to the description in Hobbit...

....now when I see that there will be no purple, green, blue and other hoods....

Now it is also me, wondering a bit concerning the dwarven-design.
I hope the elvish-design won´t surprise us as well . . .

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

I kinda like that the younger Dwarves don't have beards yet. It's a useful visual shorthand.

I'd say once you've shot them as short, and note the odd dimensions of the outfits, they'll all look plenty stocky.

I'd also suggest that these dwarves won't look like this until Rivendell, maybe not until Erebor. They'll all be wearing their hoods and whatnot when we see them first.

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

young fili or kili without beard can be fine... if he was not THAT slim of face and body... like an elf...

too slim...

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Some photos I've seen of the actor suggests he's had to put on weight for the role.

And squish the visual down a bit and he'll look a lot chunkier.

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

It's definatedly not "hobbitish" at all (as in "The Hobbit" not as "dwarves-looking-like-hobbits). I really don't like it sad

I agree with you Lady Wirilómë, these are no J.R.R.T dwarves...

For instance Thorin...I don't like him at all

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Well, I wouldn´ t say in general, that i don´t like ALL dwarves.

Painting small metal miniatures helped me to have a certain look at certain details. Necessary for painting small miniatures . . .
Doing so you can see some dwarven characters which are a bit "strange" in their design part.
Others are pretty much well done. Even if Del Toro´s characteristical influence polarizes.

Put your eye on Oin and Gloin for example. They look really fantastic.

Let´s wait until we see all of them in action . . .

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Thorin (most important character in Tolkien's world), then Kili & Fili, (despite being youngsters) all look human...

This is non sense

Other are quite nice and I agree also Oin and Gloin look great.

As you say, we shall wait and see once in move but I currently feel unconfortable...

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

I must say that Fili and Kili .. and Thorrin, all look very odd, I'd even say too elvish to be dwarves.... even if they have beards...

and Bifur with his sort of metal part in his forehead is odd too

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

To many odd dwarves are here... for one I'm sure. Master Turambar is right ! Only Oin and Gloin looks like dwarves shown in The LotR movies. All others might be better when we see them on film... !

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Mithrill will have a hard time releasing Hobbit related figurines alongside the Movie "fashion" effect... if the movie characters are that alienated from the books....

but most of all... Games Workshop, will also have difficulties with that.... because they already released them I suppose and most of all the Necromancer figurine... (which makes an appearance at least in voice in the Hobbit movies)
