Maybe the magic was the most powerful force in the world. But that was long ago.

The Tree wants me to stop putting them in sausages. Don't know why. They taste nice and spicy.

Wantingwater92 sound like it's an Ent, if our own resident Tree is anything to judge by. Always demanding water, he is.

32°C here in Toulouse.
Master Barliman, may I request a drink which contains more than water please ?
I am thinking of this famous Sûri-kylä spirit which is always embellished with "Lossoth Ice".

Re: The Taproom

Interesting. I always tried to keep away from any online computer "RPG" stuff (and spend my time at this bar here, instead). Can anyone tell me more about this LOTRO? Does it have the right Tolkien "feeling" to it, or is more like the usual WoW, D&D, etc. stuff?

Re: The Taproom

I don't like lotro... mainly because it is a (mmo)RPG set in the world of Tolkien... I am from those purist who think that the story should not be rewritten or extrapolated by anybody... SO I don't play rpgs in middle earth...
Still, I play mmo.... and I play a lot, I play Everquest 2 actually... At least, the universe is its own smile

Re: The Taproom

Well, thanks for that impression, Master Gildor. Personally, if it is done with care and without changing the big lines of events, I would (and did) RPG in ME. My biggest concern with something like LOTRO would be to encounter dozens "gand0lf254"s wielding L38 smaug-slaying intelligent tooth picks while saving the princess of XYZ.

Re: The Taproom

I do not know Lotro. I just googled Lossoth to check if there was some famous places...
I found this town on a wiki which seems quite serious and complete (even if not JRRT source):

Re: The Taproom

master theobald it is not about copyright, indeed there are copyrights on each world... but I mean... though I respect those who play in the ME universe (and the court of ardor with all MERP reference is a good example) I simply can't play myself in the me universe... at one point there will always be invention... contradiction, even if not meant by the developpers, these will be achieved by the players... since the history necessarily takes place before the war of the rings.... but in the third age (because no licence for silmarillion etc...)  it would require the devs... AND the players knowing by heart ALL the books and characters , places and events that do exist in tolkien universe.... that means LOTS of canonical books.... of which very few people master the full content...

that's too dangerous for me to extrapolate, we never know if there isn't a canon text over there saying the opposite...

when a game company develops their own universe with their own cosmogony, mythology, history, geography, and characters... at least the do master ALL of their lore content...
this is not the case with Tolkien... no one can really master ALL the content, except maybe Christopher Tolkien and a very few "sages"...

that was what i was meaning smile
.... which actually was very well summed up by protezeus example on what COULD happen (and has happened ... no doubt about it)....
