Anyway, what's wrong with the current M range Faramir? - I kinda like him. As must be well-known by now - I've said, or at least implied, it often enough - I'll always vote for a named Tolkienian figure in preference to a MERP 'Fantasy' figure, but I'd prefer it to be one that we haven't seen before, or at least in a context that we haven't seen them before. A man with a bow is, when all is said and done, a man with a bow.

Having said that, I shall now have to think of someone worthwhile to suggest myself.

I want a Faramir for fightin' not mopin' big_smile

(I love the old Faramir, I have about four copies of the figure for various nefarious usage)

Re: The Taproom

fact is , faramir or not, a "kneeled archer" ready to fire his arrow would be original , if sculpted like in the picture!

I may support this indeed smile

Re: The Taproom

And an odd little aside.

After going to the post office to send Master Holger I model I promised him, I went to the rather nice game store near my new apartment. The store has a nice selection of Vallejo paints, a lot of GW stuff, and various Flames of War products and so on. I bought some paint brushes.

What are you painting, the guy behind the counter asked.

Mithril figures, I said.

"Those old things?"
"Yeah, they are still being made."
"Seriously?"
"They have a website and everything."
"They still have the cool pre-undercoats? I used to collect them as a kid."
"Check out the website. Seriously."

So we have:

- Someone who knows miniatures.
- Someone who knows Lord of the Rings miniatures.
- Someone who knows Mithril. Someone who may have collected them.
- Someone who might be in a position to order some for their shop.

Who didn't know anything about Mithril still existing.

I doubt he's the only one.

Sad. Mithril really need to do some proper hobby magazine advertising. I don't think I've ever seen a Mithril ad in my entire life.

At least, after several discussions, he confirmed me that he can order some mithrils I may need in the future.

Re: The Taproom

Hey, which shop have you visited in Beornlin (which is actually near my cave)? Perhaps I should investigate and demand (while casually shaking my axe) that they should carry Mithril now ... smile

Re: The Taproom

A very good question. There was someplace I saw Mithrils in Berlin... but I've forgotten which one.

Weirdly, the Games Workshop in Frankfurt had a HUGE stock of Mithrils!

That cannot be, it must have been the shop in the "Zeil-Galerie", which also had GW stuff but also Black Tree and Mithril figures. It is closed now or dead as you can call it.

So why a post after I said, I will not post anything anywhere? Because I am damn frustrated about Mithril and this could just be expressed here. No M-miniatures to come, high priced MS-figures which are not always worth being MS' and a voting I cannot understand. Sometimes the suggestions are fabulous, but the first and second round are mostly frustrating not to say that some suggestions coming from some GF-members are some I made myself- which is acceptable and nice so I can in a way suggest more than one mini per month, but this also causes a split of votings.
Sometimes I am thinking about suggesting  another Witch King just to show how absurd this thing is [be aware: this is just a JOKE]. This figure would surely get enough votings, like this Faramir in ranger garb- BY THE VALAR!!!!! We have a complete M-series with a lot of rangers still available for an acceptable price so who needs this??????????

- Are this ideas great for collectors? No, a miniature needs to be collectible, because it is rare or because it is great in design. [MS are not really rare not all are great designs, e.g. the personal banner bearers (like Bolg's) have ridiculously small banners!]
- Are this ideas great for wargamers? No, minis are to expensive to build large armies or some minis are still available via ebay or Mithril and cheaper minis could be used for conversions- e.g. standard bearers.
- Are this ideas great for diorama builders? No as several minis of some kind are needed and diorama builders are not a species vast in numbers.
- Are this ideas great for Tolkien enthusiasts? Not at all, because MERP is not liked by them all. Tolkien enthusiasts like things derived directly from Tolkiens work [Lossoth for example are nice because mentioned by Tolkien, but a Northman lady?????].

I think my frustration goes deep and beyond and I have a certain feeling, that there are some others feeling like this. This month was the very first month I have not voted and I did not feel bad doing this, which is surprising me.

P.S.: If I am misunderstood again and someone things I hate Mtihril or wish it would die or anything else, I will delete this post like I did before.

Re: The Taproom

.... actually it was almost 3 years ago ( I'm lost in time ) when I was last time on International touristic fair (ITS) in Berlin.... but I forgot name of this shop... maybe because of I did not buy anything... so no invoice for proof... but it was near the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachtnis Kirche I think in some shopping center in basement... under the ground floor... I was only pass by in short time in there...

and for master Estel some of this feelings I share... some figures are to expensive... I'm not gamer so I'm not interesting for building any armies... those characters no mentioned in Tolkiens books like those northman lady, unnamed orcs, goblins, some archers ( possibly "Faramir" ) bunch of witch kings and Isildurs....  etc... are to absurd... and in same time we have lot's of important characters ready to be suggest and elected to release... and those characters could be real MS figures.... and about design... there I can't support your thoughts... because of for me is only Haldir total failure, and for trolls and orcs I'm not expert and fan.... all other figures are great...

any way great and educational post Master Estel... and do not erase it smile

I'm left on suggestion list your idea of Arathorn which is acceptable for me.... from february.... so we would see.... what would happened...  smile
