Re: The Taproom

mmhh not all harfoots are dark skinned master tom

the Gamegee family was from the Harfoot ethny, IIRC.   anyway, as some tolkien experts said, none of the three ethnies could be brown or black skinned due to their geographical origins.  Besides, Tolkien only says that Southrons were "dark skinned" but without further details, and dark can exist in several distinctions.... from medium tan to deep brown... for fair skin people, even a heavily sun-tanned person is "dark skinned"...

Besides there is the matter of cinematographic continuity... PJ has put some standards on the LOTR trilogy... it would be odd for him to change visual standards in a PREQUEL to LOTR.... I admit that if it was a sequel anything could happen (lol) but in a prequel...

Re: The Taproom

Thank you Master Estel! It is very interesting how information is changed from one country to another one. But I believe we are lied at by the media all the time anyway. So this story is not really a surprise!  hmm

Barliman, I think You owe me some drinks... I just paid this year's bill for the Pony... your licence is renewed for another year, cheers!

As soon as I heard that I rushed back to say thank you!

Actually, truth be told, the hand of the Witchking has been at work and he has drawn the icy cold of the North as far south as the village of Gatwick, and the flying thingies ain't flying. And won't be, for sufficiently long that Mrs B and I decided to cancel our travels and grab the offer of a full refund with both hands. So no financial loss, but no skin-tan gain.

And as for Hobbits and racism, what a load of tosh. It's an accusation that's been made before by such little minds as have never read the books properly - or at all - and know sufficiently little of their subject that they spout such drivel to generate a few bob (that's small money to you colonial types - i.e., non-Bree folk) by taking cheap shots at cultural icons.

As you can see, I still need a holiday....

Mmmh, sorry to hear that, Master Barliman. I hope there will be an other occasion to take these flying thingies . . .

Huooommmm ... despite you personal disappointment and lack of holidays, Master Barliman, it's good to have you back here again ... rhuoommm ... I never trusted them non-flying thingies myself ... huoomm ... and besides, what do you need a skin-tan for in Bree? ... huoomm ?

Re: The Taproom

Thank you for your kind commiserations, Master Archer and Master Tree, much appreciated. I'm certainly glad that we didn't take the option of a later flight, because the flying thingies still aren't (if you see what I mean). And anyway, it's always good to get my own slippers back on and sit back by my own hearth with a jug of my own good ale. That soothes many disappointments.

Huoommm ... that's the way to cope with it ... huoomm ... and sometimes it feels better than having a weirdly-decorated-so-called-drink elsewhere while also having to soothe a skin-tan-sun-burned thing .... rhuooommm ...
see, 2701st entry by me, tree ... rhuoommm ... so I think I might have another free bowl of that you-know-what ... cheerioh, Master Barliman ...

Re: The Taproom

Is there usually an attachment from the cloak to the bottom of the bow?  I would have thought the arm would be separate and to be glued on.  I don't have this one to compare though...

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... I think you're right with that, Mistress Wendy - you had a close look at those pieces ... hoommm ... as far as I can remember that LT-Legolas was a single-piece casting and there were no 'connections' between cloak and lower part of the bow ... huoommm ... I only have one of those figures and that one is painted already .... huooooomm ....
so Master Barliman might be right .... huom

Re: The Taproom

You can purchase the LT-Legolas from the mithril clearance section where there  is a picture with the cloak attached to the bottom of the bow.Master Theobald is correct that it is a single-piece cast so the arm is not separate.

Re: The Taproom

Hi Rick (get my ebay email this morning?)

I suspect that those are the clearence figures meself, too.

Thought maybe he just had lots of them. I kept ending up with that legolas figure in bulk ebay purchases. Said legolas figure has become a random Elf captain, a Rohir archer, something else and even part of a mounted ranger conversion.

Re: The Taproom

Just returning from shovelling this snow away . . . the fourth time this week!

Now being inside this warm inn, the fire is crackling and there is a warm grog waiting for me  . . .
Thank you Master Barliman.

Re: The Taproom

Well things have improved in Bree - though parts of the country are still very cold and snowbound, here we've seen a slight thaw for the last 24 hours or so (it was only about 0 degrees last night, and our visiting badger came and ate his food for the first time in several days). Most of the puddles in the yard only have a thin layer of ice on them now, and the snow that had been laying for about a week has largely melted into frozen slush. Good ankle- and neck-braking weather if you're not very careful!

You could try the choloesterol-free alternative - a pint of scrumpy with a stick of celery in it.
