Re: MB560 Contest !

I tried to do something like that with the writings in the book on Balin's tomb (M285) and Elrond's opened book (LR37), for example. After colouring the pages I used a special pencil of 0.3 mm size. That worked well. The according "Rotring" ink pen Gildor referred to might also work well, but it is far more expensive wink

Re: MB560 Contest !

I was also use special pencil to write some details on maps..."Rotring ink" is one of the best choices ( I have few of them.. I use them for drawing lines on the hulls at the scale model aircraft - 1/48 ) or just regular pencil with HB mark ( this means darker shade )... also after painting... of course !

I was paint maps with nearly 70 percent of the dilute colors... and I'm happy with result...

I saw today in newsletter that competition is officially moved on mid of february. I will nov improve some details smile

A rotring isograph ink-pencil 1 Point 3 . . . I remember the times when I was a student . . . no computer around . . .
Time to re-activate these dry-ink-pencils . . .
A good hint, Gildor,Theobald and Fastest painter ever . . . big_smile

BUT: I prefer my two-hair-brush. It is a very old one and there are only two hairs left . . .

It's been 20 years since I haven't used a rotring. No computer too lol
It must be somewhere in the attic.

Re: MB560 Contest !

Great, until february!
I just ordered today my Elrond council smile

To draw maps and similar things (freehands), take a look to this tutorial of a friend painter. It´s in english, with pictures and lot of useful tips:

http://volomir.blogspot.com/2010/09/fre … nique.html

The main key to make thin and little drawings is a pointed and good sharpened pencil

mmm, not at all. They are standard GW miniatures (25-30 mm scale). It´s scary what people can do in such small surfaces. yikes

Anyway, just follow the tips and try to make simpler drawings for the mithril scale wink

What´s up people? Everybody busy in doing the final parts . . . ????
What about your progress Milo?!

Is it correct, that the 14 th of February is our absolutely dead-line???

Mmh, already gone this gentle fellow . . . being busy on his "council" base I assume.
I leave also, listening to some "council"-music . . .

Re: MB560 Contest !

Seems that delay with this deadline for sending pictures of the White council,  was a wise decision for all of us....

Time to come to an end, at last!

Re: MB560 Contest !

I share your problem ESTEL. I painted Thror's Map quite well on the middle size scroll.
But once the magnifying glass removed,  you can see nothing as it is too small...

I did  not start characters yet...I shall add colors to Saruman tonight.

Re: MB560 Contest !

But what is the information transporting by Thror´s map concerning the forthcoming battle of Dol Amroth of what the struggle shown is about?
Thror´s map shows the Lonely Mountain . . . roll
About painting those maps: it is difficult to catch the right scale. How large/small are symbols on a map in32mm scale?

By the way, this is the same concerning eyes. Therefore I don´t paint eyes anymore . . . as they look always like ping-pong-balls lol

Re: MB560 Contest !

I chose Thror's Map as I feel Gandalf might show it when back from Dol guldur.

Re: MB560 Contest !

You can choose whatever you want, Milo. It is just a thought into the direction of the right context . . .

Re: MB560 Contest !

Well, the right context is what is written on Mithril site:

"By its second meeting in T.A. 2851 Saruman had already been corrupted by the Dark-lord through use of the Palantir and he blocked Gandalf's proposed attack on Dol Guldur.

The diorama depicts this second meeting of the White council in which Gandalf is proposing the attack to an unbending Saruman, while Galadriel, Elrond and Cirdan look on."

So my thought is the following:
My painted big map represents southern mirkwood.
Gandalf is using Thror's map to tell one evil story example on what is going on in Dol Guldur.
He also brings a dol guldur sketch: the very small map.

Re: MB560 Contest !

Master Caster, you are a wise man !!!!

Ok then, Master Forest Warden, I agree to you exept of Thror´s map. Southern Mirkwood and a sketch of Dol Guldor . . . that really makes sense, what else . . .
Seems that you have been visited me using one of the "deadly hallows" . . . ?! big_smile

Already painted that! cool
But I have to cut one hair of the two-hair-brush for having something as an sophisticated result . . .
