Elladan and Elrohir - a quick and dirty upload

These are the first Mithrils I've painted in a few months.
The Elladan figure is, obviously the M214 with the head from LR38. I hated the plate armour, but the head was ok.

Both figures were broken and flawed ebay purchases. One was stripped, the other had some weird issues with its undercoat. The spear was also broken. I really should have stripped the figure. Painting the figure's skin meant that in some light it looks like he has some hideous disease on one side. Furthermore, the Elrohir figure had had some skin painted on already, so I tried to match that base skin tone on Elladan. The M214 had a broken sword which needed replacing.

Since I've used the M339 as Elf captains, Elf guards and a few other things, I put some extras on the figure to distinguish himself. Holger sent me some bits, and I gratefully used them. I figured showing both armed with swords, and both with identical bow and quiver sets would make them thematically "together."

Still having problems with the brushes available. Soon as I have money again, I am ordering a set of much better brushes.

The result is ok. They'll be fine for now - as figures to use as part of a Rivendell warband and as part of the set for "Before the Goblins." I may do some touch ups later.

I really want to put them in a battle scene with some trolls or other. But that may have to wait.

Trying to decide if my next painting project should be a Mithril Glorfindel, some Beornings (for the Before the Goblins set) or finish the cast Prince August skeletons for Dungeons and Dragons.

What is the "before the Goblins set" reference?

Re: Elladan and Elrohir - a quick and dirty upload

Uhm, basically...

Once upon a time there was a game called the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game

It had three supplements. "Dawn Comes Early," "Darker than the Darkness" and "Over the Misty Mountains Cold"

Two more supplements were plannned: "Before The Goblins" and "The Greatest of the Forests" They were never released.

I'm working on making "fan-made" versions. As a once and again ICE employee, this amuses me.

Anyway, I consider there's a sort of continuum of sources: the Middle-earth Quest adventure game books, the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game, the Wizards card game and the Palantir Quest MERP module which form a thematic continuity which hews rather closely to Mithril's vision of Middle-earth.

Now, being a bit mad, I'm putting together a collection of figures for each of these modules. I was thinking of making a sort of supplementary upload of photos and notes for each collection of figures. I'm also trying to keep the figure requirements, as much as possible, towards in-production, or at least readily available from mithril, figures. Yes, this means I'm having dilemmas about the Tolman Greenthumb character.

I'm a bit looser about the various warbands needed for the two modules: the Beornings and Woodmen and Wood Elves (not to mention the Orcs), but I want the heroes to be readily available. The idea is to create further interest for Mithril, as well as amusing myself. I also experimented with using cast Prince August figures for some of these roles. Alas, this was almost entirely unsatisfactory.

The problem is that this is an insanely big project, way bigger than I anticipated. Then a whole whack of time passed between the last bunch of Mithrils painted and now. There's a whole bunch more research and writing needed too.

But anyway...

Re: Elladan and Elrohir - a quick and dirty upload

I loved those adventures! I have even made an adaption of "Dawn comes early" for the introductory adventure of Ambarquenta (a fan-made Middle-earth RPG).

If you're going to write some adventures, I'm sure Other Minds magazine would be interested in publish them and in your miniature selection for each of the old ones as well.

That, indeed, is the eventual plan.

Soon as I can figure out just what this whole "making a movie" schedule looks like (because right now it looks like: soon, six months, yesterday, today, 2 weeks. I think this is one reason film people are a bit insane)
