So I'm told.

A bit late, but GILDOR, YOU CAN PAINT
. Judge yourself by the enjoyment you get from painting and don't judge yourself against what others do

i used to have this mood.... I seem to no longer have... as if I had lost technique and skills, but most of all... it seems my eyes are no more what they used to be...
I can't manage to focus on details while painting....but anyway... not a proper place for that and well... i'm trying to force myself to paint again... but it's hard....

I just take my specs off and paint the figures at a distance of about 6 inches! But of course, I'm only painting to what might be termed "wargame standard" - though The Man, bless him, said that they're rather too well painted for wargaming. I could never hope (nor would I attempt) to paint figures to the standard of, for instance, Mistress Wendy. I just wouldn't have the time, nor the ability, so I just paint them as best I can and leave it at that.

When my eyes starting getting worse, I bought an Optivisor with a #7 lens (2.75 magnification) now my painting is improving again!

Only trouble I have with that sort of device is that it enlarges the size of the brush tip too, which I find doesn't help me at all.
Offline
Buy a brush half the size! Problem fixed!
I also bought an optivisor with #10 lens (3.5 magnification) for doing eyes and teeth. And a 8x jewlers loupe for spotting flaws that can't be seen with the other two visors.

What, no lens to paint the individual hairs in beards?
I'll stick with eyeballs and a size 0000 paintbrush, thank you. Cheaper and way, way, way less irksome. If there's such a thing as a size 00000000 paintbrush I've yet to find one. Could try a 00000, I suppose, but I'm not aware of there being anything smaller.

Huoommmmm ... you shouldn't mix up two different subjects, gentlemen. ... huooommm ... one is the size of the tip of a paint brush, the other is that some people here are complaining about declining abilities of their eyesights .... rhuoommm ... last thing is quite normal, I dare to say, as I seem to be the oldest being around here .... hommm ... let me live ... errr ... let's say another decade or so, then the only thing which will be left for me is spraying those tiny metal-things with some primer .... rhuoommm ... but maybe then I would still enjoy being able to do that ... rhuoommmm ... so to say ... hoommmm ...

You're not paying attention, Master Tree! - the issue of brush sizes came up in the context of failing eyesight and using magnifying lenses.
Besides, when have you ever known anyone stick to a single topic in the Pony? That would be a first indeed.
Offline
Huoommm ... so that means I'm not paying attention, right ? ... huoomm ... so right you are, Master Barliman .... huom ... once again I might have mixed up some serious matters here, as I thought "failing eyeside" might mean "fading sunlight" ... rhuoommm ... though indeed I'm not a native speaker of the Bree-ish tongue, as you know and might pardon me about these slight slips which may have caused one or the other misunderstandings around here in your very much appreciated, comfortable premises ... rhuoommm ... yes, that's a very good question indeed, Master Barliman ... when did I ever stuck to a single topic in the Pony .... rhuoommm ... that's a good one, indeed .... huoommrhuommm ... ahem, might be some years ago ... ??? ...
more than some? ... rhuoommm ... alright now, I know what you wanted to tell me using some kind words .... huoommm ... "I wish that them old tree would be rather more appreciated while doing his job outside in the backyard of the precious Pony premises, cleaning wargskins." ... rhuoommm ... err, as spring's coming soon I just will do that ... immediately ... huoommm

Very good, and about time. There'll be a bowl of amber liquid waiting for you on the bar when you're done. But watch out for those wargskins - they've been a bit lively lately, and if you're not careful they'll bite the bark off your backside. You know, I'm not entirely sure they're actually dead.

i strictly paint with fingers. it adds an individual touch (omg—a pun!
) to the miniature.

I had also to buy a lens last year, but I don't like using it, I feel like I paint a train or something much to big !
Barliman,
Please bring me triple x scrumpy as I won M98 & I still have to wait for 1h26min more before going to bed to make sure the hidden one comes home!

I can certainly give you a triple XXX ale, but I don't think it will help your eyesight one jot.
