Nice!!! I'm afraid I may have to start collecting them now that I know these exist.

I guess it would be very hard to find everything as not so many PA appear on Ebay and some ref are unknown...
As a start, PA is still selling remaining stock:
Characters:

Friends & Foes:

Having collected a lot of them, I would offer a word of caution:
Most of them are stylistically somewhat similar to Mithrils, but are not that similar. The figures are generally fatter and rounder in appearance, and the detailing is a lot cruder. I bought a bunch to use as backup Middle-earth figures, but they've all been repurposed to play Dungeons and Dragons with. The D&D minis collection on my shelf is an odd collection of slightly peculiar looking figures from different manufacturers. They're all happier that way!
But the point being they don't really look much like Mithrils standing beside Mithrils. A lot of the visual flourishes belong to 1980s D&D type fantasy art, not the various MERP illustrations (obviously). The difference is somewhat telling.

I received a scan from PAM 1985 catalogue page contaning "Fantasy armies" listing.
Wiki gallery is updated accordinlgy
http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lost … _August%29
I compared references listed in 1985 catalog and Blisters pictures I have collected in the wiki gallery (text on blisters being considered as good reference) + discussed the matter with Master Gildor (in french)
CH11 should be the one refered in 1985 as "CH8 Viking Berserker". "Viking Berserker" is also refered as BA2 in the same catalog but is not mentionned in CH collection in later catalogs.
So we agreed to conclude that either CH11 is a lost reference , either CH11="BA2 Viking Berserker" (like MS6=UN6).
Same mystery remain for TS1 which does not appear in 1985 listing whereas Hirelings (HR) and TS2 are listed.
Considering that "662 Hirelings & Treasures" mould contains 1 treasure chest + 1 treasure sack (http://www.princeaugust.ie/662/index.html), my guess is that TS1 corresponds to these 2 Items.
All other references are clearly identified now. I will later add mapping with PA moulds as almost all early PAM have a corresponding mould.

That is deeply impressive work, Master Milo.
I would also agree that the Viking berserkir has a good chance of being a CH - it was included in the "fighters" mould set, too.
I love the sense of nostalgia. However, I have a question!
What number Manual is it? Is it one of the ones on the PA website?

I Saw the page and I don't think it is master Gavin, on the page you could read something such as "available Feb'85" that means this listing (it is a list) predates February 1985 and many "scheduled" references may have been transformed into others later... actually almost all references are listed as "to be released".... only the CH1 to CH8 were released at that time and it mentions F&F such a NE1-2-3-4 (neanderthal) or WR (wraith) which are totally new to me but were supposedly already released.
Also it does not mention anything after CH24....
in fact this listing may be from 1984 it is very very old

Those NE miniatures were almost certainly the pre-casts of the older (now-called) "Classic" fantasy army moulds.

I sincerely hope that Chris will make new copies of some of these figures in its new design... (like PCH1 & 2) since these old figures look awful in comparison with what this he works today... at least it can be concluded on the basis of these images...
This pictures shows how much has spread after all these years. He became a true (best) master (for me)....

we all become better with years, in sculpting for Chris, in painting for us I suppose:)
as I possess quite a lot of those CH and F&F figurines... when you compare them with the forthcoming Beregond vignette... it almost seems it is not the same sculptor!
even the style, Until quite recently, Chris has reproduced many "concept art" for his figurine... it was quite often repetitive (arms crossed, bending over, cloaks in the wind) but it seems there has been quite a renewal in the sculpting since the beginning of 2011!

Regarding CH11 I think I have found the real answer.
'CH9 Vicking Bersceker ' being BA2, it might have been totaly removed from CH range.
Then all reference after CH8 mini shifting by -1, "CH11 & CH12 would be "CH11-Halfling" & "CH12-Halfing female".
Then halfings were later grouped as "CH12 Halfings"
In any case, that means no need to search for CH11 anymore !

I don't know what the references above refer to Master Thingol, but the elf adventurer and elf archer just released by Phaeton resemble closely two figures on the link posted by Milo.
I cannot zoom in close enough to see the references on the poster, but the figures are almost identical. I hope this gives you some comfort that the quality has improved and that The Man IS making new copies

I got it David. Thank you
But there are lots of figures, and a lot of them are not really interesting to me. Neither in the first version. I hope it will not all of them sculpt again. It would be better to concentrate his great talent on the figures conected with the theme of "SILM......"

I just realised that the reference numbers refer to two of the new Phaeton releases (I didn't check all the way down the list ), but nonetheless thay are re-sculpts of those two figures by the look of it .
Agreed - lets keep the new stuff to Shhhh, you know what...... figures

I have both PA CH2, CH3 and Phaeton PCH1, PCH2 now. I will take pictures in daylight tomorrow morning to show you how things evolved towards years .

(I have not yet made entries in the database for PM3 and PCH1 and PCH2 damn! will take care of that asap

Here are pictures:
PCH1 vs CH2:
Regarding assembling: Sword on CH2, none on PCH2
PCH2 vs CH3:
Regarding assembling: Bow on CH3, Arm with Bow on PCH2
Main improvement is arms, legs, head proportions.
Old PA faces look like roman statues, Phaeton faces have Chris' style.

the metal.... the metal is different, heavier, smoother... I am not expert in metal mayber Holger could provide more info but this is definitly not the same alloy and finition than mithril... It may explain the price difference?
