The Great Goblin

I’ve been a little busy of late with other things and thought it about time to return to my great quest (try and finish painting all my Mithril figures afore I go to the Halls of Mandos big_smile), so here is The Great Goblin.

The little raised platform is by Grendel Miniatures and was originally earmarked for something else, but I thought it would make for a nice base for The GG.

This was also a good opportunity to use the three goblin imps who are prodding, poking and threatening the bound up Thorin Oakenshield.

It was also a good opportunity to use M452, Orc Animist, who is screaming with range and pointing to Orchrist as it lays on the steps, and also M95 Saviga the king’s consort who though listed as a half-orc suited my purpose and finds a home at last.

The rock back-drop is a plaster casting from Woodland Scenics. Orcrist by the way has been ‘stolen’ from the GF Ingold figure cool.

Re: The Great Goblin

Ah, a wonderful combination of figures going together well with an idea. Many old ones mixed with the "newer" M452. I especially like the way you found some "function" for those "imps", which I do really like. Then the Dwarven captive, the Uruk-Hai guard, Saviga and M178 and the Orcrist at the steps.   - Great work, Master Ddaines, indeed. - I just enjoyed to have taken some time to have had a closer look at your pics. - Thank you very much for providing the pictures. smile

Re: The Great Goblin

Ha Ha !
Now I know the reason for his absence . . .
Well, David, I would like to follow the Tree´s explanation: Great concept. Great combination of these different orcs . . .
And yes, I also noticed these imps . . . Never knew a sense in those figures . . .until now!  cool
And the dwarven victim is the final touch!
I also like this "aztec" - character of the platform. Great choice as well.

Maybe the magic was the most powerful force in the world. But that was long ago.
The dragons are gone, the giants are dead and the children of the woods are forgotten.

Re: The Great Goblin

Thank you all for the nice comments it had been at the 'almost finished' stage for a while and just needed a final spurt of energy big_smile

Using the imps, Saviga and the animist vindicates my decision to keep Mithril's for many years unpainted and unused just waiting for an idea to come along lolrollcool (that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it).

Actually what I always liked about Mithrils were the characters that while not necessarily canon give the flexibility to use them in scenes like this.
