I think Esgaroth scenes appear in the second part of the movie: December 2013

Thanks for the link erch! I for one can't wait for the movies. Yes, yes, I know they aren't entirely true to the books. But they are very entertaining and done extremely well. Also, I read the Hobbitt and LOTR every year or so, so I have no problem distinguishing the movies from the books. Afterall, they are not meant to replace the books, or even to really be compared to them--the are just meant as someone's (PJ) interpretation of a great work.

thanks, Master Erchamion for that link ... was worth having a look at that PJ's-ideas ... huoommm ... as for me, the tree, I started an unexpected party some years ago ... rhuomm ... including the first chapter of the book in a single scene ... huoomm ... that was fun ... huomm ... all events of the first chapter being shown in a single piece ... huom ... I will never forget.

Some interesting comments on the 'feel' of the movie - the way ahead, or back? . I hope the link will work for everyone.

Hmmm. Well, it pays to wait until you can form your own opinion rather than depending too much on what other people think, but there do seem to be enough criticisms here to warrant grounds for concern. When early material for the first LOTR film was shown under similar circumstances fans raised serious objections to the portrayal of Arwen - fighting at Helm's Deep! (Eru alone knows how that was supposed to have come about...), and the scenes were subsequently dropped, but it's unlikely that all the material shot thus far for the Hobbit could be shot again, so the situation this time isn't as easy to rectify...
All we can do is wait and see.

I'm a bit worried about Radagast on a sled pulled by Wabbits !

I won't watch anything with spoilers. I never see the point in that sort of thing.

I've usually forgotten by the time of the movies

I've just noticed that while I was away, "the Hobbit" Production Video 7 was posted - for those of you who haven't seen it yet, the link is:

Interesting scene with the barrels!

Ah, then you might not have seen Production Video 6, which shows a little more of the barrel episode. I'm surprised that they didn't take the easy option and have the barrels with their lids on, as in the book, but I guess they thought it would be more exciting if you could actually see the characters, in order to "share" in their discomfort.

That's what I meant , the barrells had no lids on so I wonder how raft elves figure in this or perhaps they are too p***ed like Galion and the Captain of the Guard . I guess it means that there are no raft elves

I assume not. Not that they're very convincing even in the book. I somehow can't imagine elves phaffing around with rafts - ugly, unsophisticated, workaday things (er, the rafts, that is, not the elves).
