Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

The movie has been reviewed in the NZ press now, and they seem mostly extremely impressed. And we now know for sure where the first movie ends - with the rescue of the Dwarves by the eagles at the end of Chapter 6. I can't remember who it was who guessed at that, but whoever it was, they were right!

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Thank you for the link, Master Erchamion.
Though I have to admit, that I don't like those XXL-oversized weapons at all. - It's because of that I do also not like so many figures produced by several companies. These exteme exaggerations concerning the proportions of a human-like body (e.g. that funny Conan) and those huge "tools" they wield always makes me laugh.
But, saying this, you can guess why I really do like Mithril-figures that much. There, even a weapon used by a Troll is well-proportioned to the size of the body and that's what I like. - I only disagree with those spears and javelins in all the Mithril ranges. Mostly the shafts are much too short and too thick (I would have problems having to throw such missiles more than 6 yards.).
But anayway, that's just my point of view, and I think Master Tubb comes closer to the descriptions and imaginations we find in Tolkien's concepts and novels.
Sorry, I was just drawn away by my thoughts after having watched that visual information Master Erchamion linked here.

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

The one thing I don't like about The Man's swords is the frequent absence of pommels. Anyway, this isn't the place to discuss that.

Back to the movie. I've just seen one reviewer describe Howard Shore's soundtrack as 'dreary'. It didn't sound that way to me, but I guess it goes to prove that everybody's tastes are dfferent. The reviewer did like the film, but thought that the soundtrack detracted from it overall.

The world is full of strange people.

Well, it is true that the BSO The Hobbit has less ´variants` than the LOTR, but call it ´dreary` is excessive. I don´t seem it dreary. I don´t know, maybe we must have to wait to see the movie for judge it. roll

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

A wise decision, Master Erchamion, as it exactly matches my point of view. "...maybe we must have to wait to see the movie for to judge it", you said.
- But in this very thread so much was jugded upon beforehand for a very, very long time by now. So I felt free to comment on some minor weapons-matter, which I just felt free to do.
I will not give away any more comments here about a film I have not seen, but I also will not rely on some "reviews" from others before I have made up my mind.
And yes, of course, "back to the movie", Master Barliman. But as you put it, "the world is full of strange people" - somehow that quotation, if it is one, rings another bell in my mind, as you might guess.

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

all of this is making me nostalgic and I search a bit back in my archives...
I don't know for how long the Many Mithril Pages community has been alive... but I found out I was on the Mithril official mailing list since July 3rd 2003 when I received the announcement of the Mirkwood first release. and I was certainly on the forums too (the old ones in black) as I have messages since september 2003...
I have been in contact with Marc Campbell since january 2004 and joined the MMP site and community on March 16th 2005... juste a couple of month before the launch of the Gold Fellowship project...

well all those dates are to say that most of us were not here when the first movies of the Lord of the Rings were released in 2001 and those communities such as MMP did not exist yet... maybe the Hobbit will have a community/social impact on us... and also on mithril... I hope for the best smile

cheers

These clips may be of interest - I must admit to only watching a bit of the goblin chase (not sure that I liked it to be honest, but it is late and the old 'peepers' are a bit tired lol) as I would prefer to see what the scenes are like in the film itself.

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

well I admit I was quite seduced by something that is REALLY uncanonical but which I had always wanted to see in the books...

Gandalf... coming along with Radagast.. along in a part of an adventure and combat...  first time ever we could see two istari fighting alongside together in the whole tolkien universe.... who knows, maybe in the third movie, with those "freedom" they took... we might even see Radagast Saruman and Gandalf fighting together... I doubt they would push forward as to include "other mages"... clad in blue... as well that would be a bit risky toward tolkien estate, most of all with the current trial...

quite a blasphemy to the text but a good thing to "look upon" smile

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Radagast, alongside the all company?? ...... Uff ....... Well, I saw a Glorfindel-Arwen in the first part of LOTR ......... hmm

On the other hand, I always imagine the Goblings Gate more like the lair-Shelob, full of tunnels and less "open spaces" or wooden constructions......

Hello friends, well, I get nostolgic also, it has been 8 years now for me between the first MMP and the current one. Gildor, you have brought many people from a dozen contries together. I think this is quite remarkable!

So, as for the movies, and the weapons, I too will wait. . . .

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

As for me, I go to the cinema from December 12 to see a fantasy film based on the Tolkien's book and not to see the Hobbit's history ...
As I think be less disappointed and enjoy watching a great adventure story wink

Be fair, maybe Thranduil had a hangover and Legolas was deputising for him.

Bilbo on the treasure . . . in a different suite! Interesting!
There is this 13 min TV spot everywhere, showing a lot of details. Just read the lines concerning dwarves in the appendices.
I found a lot of fine detalis- better saying equalities.

Re: THE HOBBIT MOVIE

ah thanks a lot for this link! I watched it (as I am not very affected by spoil or not) and I was amazed at how similar the scene of the White Council was from the mithril White council vignette!
the table, the floor, the chairs and the positions... it could be inspired by the mithril vignette! quite amazing!
