Alas, I suspect we all know the answer to that question.

Peter Jackson just confirmed Hobbit Extended Edition will have up to 25 extra minutes.
And according collider.com the extended edition will come with its corresponding collector's edition that will be released in the last quarter of 2013.

Did anyone doubt it?

Odd to annouce an extended DVD even before the standard DVD has been released - surely people won't spend their cash on the shorter version but will wait instead for the longer one.....?
.....Nah, I'll probably buy both. because I won't have the patience. But less devoted JRRT fans may not be so mad.

I have bought only the extended collector version of the LOTR, I don't think that will change with the Hobbit , not to mention the extended version of LOTR all had special "collector" content (argonath, gollum statue, and minas tirith replica)

Here in Bree we're a little televisually behind the times - prehistoric, almost - but I'm hopig that come this time next year we'll have replaced our TV with a flat-screen HD device, and will have moved on to Blu-ray also. Or maybe not. I feel environmentally rather guilty to get rid of a TV that's still working fine. We've been hoping it will break down, so that we could justify buying a more up-to-date one, but the wretched thing still keeps working faultlessly. Same with the DVD player. Problem is we bought Sony, and their stuff seems to last for ever.
Maybe I should get Bill Ferny to arrange an Orc raid....

Great movie, 3D non usefull. I liked almost everything. Best to me is riddles with Gollum, just brillant !
Well, now I shall wait for 1 more year...
Offline
ok... I was doubting in see in 3d or not... I will save some money seen it on 2D, probably.
Offline
well so I have to see it on saurday and you say 3D is not useful a pity indeed
well I'll still try it with 3D as it will be less expensive for me than 2D. (my theater has promotions for first projections of a movie each day... and the first projection is in 3D... that makes the 3D movie at 6€ in full 3D and THX (instead of 11€ in 2D later...)
quite a bargain!

Well, 3D is very well done, no doubt with it. Sometimes, it even gives vertigo ! (I do not tell you when of course)
As I do not wear glasses, I feel unconfortable with it.
And I feel motions in LOTR 2D Movies are as good as in Bilbo 3D.
So, at the end, I prefer 2D.

) as the movie is not even released worldwide yet

I shall watch the 3D 48fps version tomorrow. It will be a new experience for me so I wonder if there is much difference with the standard 2D 24fps version...

I saw the movie yesterday afternoon with my family, and we loved it.
As Milo, I find that 3D adds nothing more to the film, the image quality is more than sufficient
We spent a great time , pity we should wait a year before seeing the following

I will be seeing this movie tonight! Can't wait!

My Wife and I will see the first Hobbit movie today at a dinner theatre. We can eat first and then bring our scrumpy into the cinema (and Nob will be there, refilling mugs)--alas, I will have to go out into the cold Minnesota weather if I want a puff off of my pipe!
24x or 48x, I doubt I'll notice much difference. If I do I'll post here.

I just saw the movie. I enjoyed it despite the departure from the book.

This movie was great! I didn't want it to end! The riddles in the dark scene was excellent.

Well, I saw it too.
In general terms: I liked it.
PJ also allows some small ´licenses` not greatly alter the fundamental and the landscapes and scenery are simply: WONDERFUL.
Indeed, the soundtrack ´fits` well. I didn´t notice ´repetitive`...
This you could buy in my cinema. Gollum's figure was given away, as a gift

well I'm back from the movie myself... I must admit 3D does not add much at all... really not necessary...Also, I wish I could have watched it in english (subtitled) instead of fully french translated... the songs would be far better
as a purist I could say some freedom was taken... as always and I could be very disapointed by them but I am not at all because those freedom re not a lot intrusive for the general background of the "tolkien universe" and it helps the "non-purist" to understand things better rather than requiring other events... other books that will not be adapted to cinema anyways! so those liberties are a good thing for an ADAPTATION !
(nothing like the Arwen instead of Glorfindel, for example...)
I personnally love the scene in Dol Guldur (shhhh, no spoil) and the report at the White Council... even if in this last case... well... some BIG liberties were taken... but i won't say more

Saw the movie today, and overall I give it a thumbs up, I enjoyed what I saw if not all that was 'added', but from the familiar music to the opening scenes I had 'goose-bumps' on my arms - back in Middle Earth once more.
I personally think Martin Freeman steals some of the opening scenes as a bewidered Bilbo Baggins.
Hard not to mention some scenes as I would hate to spoil it for anyone yet to see the movie.
3D, was it? , didn't cut it for me as such, but I didn't find the glasses as bad as I thought and I'm not sure if the movie was shown at 48 FPS, if it was, then I can't see what all the (anti 48 FPS) fuss is about.
No favourite bits as such, but I did like the three trolls scene , and the final scene was a nice 'look what's waiting for you' touch.
Will try and get to see it again before christmas

will try to see it too again next week in english this time.... the french translation for the dwarf song at the beginning is a total mess...
