That Sauron painting is as great as the sculpture.

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Elroi, you have such fabulous figures!!! The tavern is exceptional (I think I see myself in the corner ;-) but your other figures are also exceptional--WOW!

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Master Elroi, I also think that your painting and presentation of Sauron are excellent. I think it's right to give him a wider base to add those boulders and stones. Though ... that tall stone-pillar to me still looks a bit too much like a resin-casted piece. - I hope you don't mind my slight criticism (which might be caused by the photo).

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Master Thingol, my camera is digital compact one, a Canon Ixus 117 HS, 12.1 megapixels. And I take pictures with white light, the one of the strip or fluorescent light. I use the Macro option, and some other options of the menu (vivids colours, manually adjusted white balance). I´ll post you the concrete options

Masters Milo and Shadyt: yes, both the miniature and the third image are very powerful. One of my favorite Fellowship miniatures by far

Thanks for your compliments, master Twrich (and you are right, you are present in the darkest corner of the Tavern smile )

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Sorry for the delay, Master Thingol

Here are some easy tips to use in a camera:

- Always use the macro mode, a tripod and the automatic shoot option

- Colours: mode intense (emphasizes colour saturation and contrast)

- White balance: auto

- Iso: auto

- Exposure time: + 0,6 (this is my personal choice, but it depends of the camera, light type, etc

Master Ent, I didn´t saw your comment before! Of course I don´t mind criticisms (contrary, I take advice of all of them).

Maybe the aspect is a little bit artificial (but is not resin, is a kind of plaster, dentist plaster). I think I should have made all the damage or scratches thinner and smaller.

The idea for including the pillar was to have a big surface where put the green tones I wanted to (and not doing it onto Sauron itself), inspiring me in the aspect of Peter Jackson´s Minas Morgul smile

Re: My little Mithril fellows

I agree with all camera advices except for ISO. In order to avoid "noise" fix it to a low value (depending on the camara). Start with 100 and go up until you find noise.

Re: My little Mithril fellows

I shall try to use configure my own camera as I only use "default" automatic macro mode before.
Thanks for all information provided.

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Thank you, Master Elroi, in addition to paint remarkably well, you know take photos that showcase your work and the cherry on the cake (french expression "la cerise sur le gateau") :  you share all that with us big_smilewink
Like Master Milo, I shall try to configure my own camera with these settings

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Mistress Sevlag, in Spain we have a similar expresion: "poner la guinda la pastel" smile  (and thanks for your kind words)

But, as very cleverly noticed Master Ori

Much of the options I provided depends not only of the camera itself or the light source, but the preferences of the person wink

Just try and adjust different options.

And another update, M231, the gobling king. I really enjoyed painting this miniature

If you your pieces to others, you will improve faster your technique and results. The others´ criticisms (if accurate) are one of the best things to improve painting wink

Don´t be "ashamed" to show your work: think that every good painter has been once in your place smile

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Sorry to bring this post back but....

I just accidentally found that our master of the brushes (I think I did not coincide with him on these forums, but I was/am a fan of his work!) has a blog specifically dedicated to mithril miniatures, (I did not knew, I just thought he just was away form painting) but the last entry is from September 2015 sooo... still there is hope.
http://paintingmithrils.blogspot.com.es/

Maybe he would have fun joining one of our painting leagues ^^ !!

Re: My little Mithril fellows

Master Maenas, you don't have to excuse at all. It's good to learn that Master Elroi still keeps his passion to present his skills. Though I do regret that he's not much present here on MMP any more. - Anyway, thank you for the link, Master Maenas.

Re: My little Mithril fellows

For last news I received from Master of brushes, he has been very busy this past year and managed to paint less than he was used to.
This may explain why he does not visit MMP very often. Still, I know he has painted some mithrils, some of these may hopefully fill my glass cabinet soon. cool
