true enough, that's why the word and concept of "Legacy" exists smile  you can't take anything when you die but you can pass it along to your children and children's children... and rest assured that they don't use it in a way you would not have desired through well established "last wills"...

indeed that's all psychology because once you're dead, it does not matter anymore, but it is common sense among human kind to project oneself beyond death while you're alive and be happy with what you think will happen (no matter what will really happen...)... call it materialism if you will smile  ... that's the fundamental upon which capitalism and liberalislm are built upon and which - no matter what our ideology is - is currently "ruling" the world ....

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

yeah well I really think I need a drink too wink and a fresh one wink

besides I received an answer from Chris concerning this survey question...
"I know for a certain fact that many of the masters do not exist any longer and many of the old moulds have deteriorated so much as to be un-useable ( the damp climate of Ireland has a long term deteriorating effect on the rubber). I feel very annoyed when this sort of thing happens without my knowledge. I agree with you 100% that if any are re-made then they should be marked "2nd edition" in some way; actually , more than this -   I would insist on re-mastering  all of them ( even those for whom the masters still survive), a bit like the remaking of the Fantasy range into Phaeton, so these would be effectively entirely new figures. Thus the real question to ask in any survey such as this  should be whether collectors would rather I spend my design time re-working M1 to 100, or making 100 new figures.

That sums it all up don't you think? smile

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

Well Chris did not say anything to Lars because well, he was not even aware of the survey itself.... He discovered that when I talked about it and was surprised thus his sentence I feel very annoyed when this sort of thing happens without my knowledge

but as I remind, Chris is no more than a councellor, sculptor and employee at Mithril, he may be co-founder he is not co-owner anymore and does not meddle in politics unless he wants to, and Lars does not inform him if he does not want to...

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

I went through the first 100 miniatures and asked myself; would I rather have a re-mastered version of this or some other new miniature. I found 36 miniatures that I would really like to have a new version of. Several others have already been re-mastered (Goldberry, the Razorak[not yet released])) Some other (mostly MERP characters) that I see little need for them to be re-released.
Having said all of that, I really want to see HD3 released also.

My two cents. The moulds at PA are stored in a acclimatised storeroom (a very small one as seen on pictures I posted) with temperature and humidity control.

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

this statement was not from me Mornedhel, but from Chris himself... I assume has has witnessed this deteroriation by himself else he would not say that sad

I assume it means they may have stored them "now" in this storeroom, but those moulds back in 1988... they may not have been treated this way alas and did not have this acclimated storeroom back in those years.

Climate controlled rooms may not stop all deterioration, they would more likely slow the occurrence of damage.

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

Recasting the old ones is just to much effort. Better producing 100 new figures as Chris has said! The old range keeps its value and if someone wants to collect the old range aswell, there is always ebay where you can find them all within a short timespan as you can see how fast Master Milo had finished his collection! Its all about effort! wink

Where there is a will there is a way, just as there are no problems, only solutions! Guess it depends on ones own perspective of the matter at that time big_smile

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

Main criticism I read about mithrils (which I do not share ) is sculpt which is "old" age and did not improved enough compared to new sculptors.
Recast for old releases is therefore a non sense to me.

And very good friendship here to find rarest ones Holger!
Cheers !

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

well collecting for "collection" purpose is one thing, and investing money in it is "part of the deal", you know that when you begin collecting.... anything, Mithril is no difference
but "getting your hands" on a given figurine (even if rare) for the practicality and uniqueness of the figurine (character, dynamism) because you want it or need it for "artistic" or "gameplay" purpose is another and should not fall into the "collecion" process.

a REMAKE of some key reference which are missing because there are no other alternative in the further ranges is a good idea.... but, take the M16 for example.... this figurine has , well according to me, no practicality value at all except... it is the M16.... it is only a "collector" rarity.... not an artistic/gameplay "must have" at all..

take the example of

the tavern accessories,  the dwarves in spider web, the mirkwood spider, Thranduil in regal garb, Far Harad characters (including camels), Beorn dogs, unmounted wargs (both M25 and M223 share a rarity), smeagol and deagol, radagast on foot, Mounted witch king)

on the other hand , remakes of the M1-100 Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Legolas, Bilbo, Tom Bombadil, Goldberry, Barliman and many common soldiers from gondor or Rohan do not necessarily need recasts and in some case not even remakes : we have so many Gandalf and Bilbo already...)

I also agree that it will probablycome to nothing. But if they did remake some, I would want the caravan guards from Far Harad included.
