Huoommmmm .... my dwarves arrived today .... huom ... they're really very nice tiny things .... rhuooommm .... but Master Gildor will be disappointed as this time there are no subreferences at all ..... hommm ... The Man just wrote on the small package "346 B" .... that's all .... hom
Offline
when no reference exist it's up to us to create them... if you think of ideas for them just mention them and I'll submit them to the Man for acceptation to be put in the database
Offline
Rhuooommm ... The Dwarven command was A,B and C, I think ... so why not continue with D1 to D4 for the four bodyguards .... huommm ... but who is who? .... there are two identical poses with two figures each .... the details of each figure (e.g. garment and armour) are all different, of course ..... huoommmm .... it's not me to decide, Master Gildor.

I'll wait for my set to arrive then I have not received it yet

Well done Wendy, drinks all round then?

It should be an excellent figure. I liked the idea from the moment you first proposed it, and I shall look forward to seeing it sculpted.
I shouldn't think Chris will need a picture of a thrush - they're pretty common in this part of the world. The challenge with the thrush will be painting it - especially as the plumage colours JRRT describes are rare.

Hey, just got the newsletter, and am delighted to see we'll be seeing a Sharkey after all (as the Xmas figure), even though he never won a Fellowship poll. The scale isn't stated, but he looks like a 28mm rather than a 54.

Excellent figure!
I fear that from Thranduil all the Christmas figures will be 28mm ....
Offline
Huuoooommmm ... I do agree about that Sharkey figure ... huom ... and I'm afraid you will be right concerning the size of further Christmas figures, Master Erchamion .... huom ... on the other hand I'm glad that this tradition seems to be continued ...
Rhuooommmm ... sorry, I nearly forgot to add my congratulations for your winning-suggestion, Mistress Wendy .... huom ... that thrush with a bowman ...

It does say the thrush was unusually large, specifically described as "enormous", so that will help a bit for the painting. Black with yellow front and black spots will be a nice little challenge.
It's just a whole lot easier to sculpt something from a picture than memory (or waiting for a thrush to hop by the window ). Who knows? He might have a birding book close at hand.
Sharkey's looking to be a really nice fig.
Another round for all! I better pay for it now. I'm putting in an order at Mithril soon and won't have much money after that.

Know what you mean... I placed an order last week for three Fellowship figs, and now can't afford to buy any Xmas presents for anyone (I'm jesting). They work out pretty expensive now that the pound has collapsed against the euro...

Huoommm .... thank you for the round, Mistress Wendy. ... as for your lack of those coiny things you might just buy one of those tabs Master Barliman sells .... or even offers for free ..... rhuooommmm ... they seem to have the same effect, as they can be used for payment here .... huoomm ... so he just keeps one of those tabs he before dedicated to you ... huom ... then he scibbles some signs on it and you get your drink .... rhuoommm ... at least that is how I understand that strange habit ..... hom
Offline
Your grasp of fiscal dynamics is awesome, Master Tree...and explains why I have such difficulty extracting any coiny things from you!
Offline
Rhuooommmm .... hom ... alas ... well ... right ... maybe ... but in the past you did receive metal things from me, didn't you? .... rhuoommm ... ( and some coiny things, too as far as I can recall ... though quite a long time ago, I unfortunately have to admit) .... rhuooommm .... of course that might not settle all that you ask for ... rhuoommm ...
Alas ... thanks for your compliment about "fiscal dynamics" provided by me ... huoommm ...
as I do have to rething some of those matters again ... rhuooommm ...
please, Master Barliman, let me rather pay with rumours, if you please ....
Morlas has been finished and sent ...... rhuooommmrhom ....

Huoommm ... no reaction within about twenty-four hours ... hom ... there could be three reasons for this, methinks ... hom ... first is you're not listening any more until the end whenever I speak ... rhuoommm ... I might be a little too talkative, well .... hom ... second is that this place once again seems to be abandoned (except that smoky smell from that corner over there) ... homrhuoomm ... or third is that you do not know Morlas ....
Huoommm ... I restricted from having his name being the solution for my December-riddle-question .... hoooommm ... that might have been a bit too much unfair I thought .... hom
Offline
Not so hasty, Master Tree! There is also a fourth reason that explains my absence, which is that, sadly, I sometimes have to do some work in order to justify my existence... which means that I can't always be present in the taproom to keep an eye on what's going on.
And if Morlas is a riddle, then it's one that's way over my head. Is it in Entish, or Westron?
Offline
Huooommmm ... indeed, Master Barliman, I can understand, as business has been slowing down here .... huomm .... unfortunately ... I hope you're fine with your second job then ... hom
Alas .... nay, the name Morlas, I explained, is not about a riddle ... rhuooommm ... that would have been much too difficult for everyone being interested in riddles ... hom ... it simply is the name The Man gave to the "Prince of Squirrels" ... Morlas he called him ..... hom
Offline
Well that has me even more foxed than I was! Who in Middle-earth is the "Prince of Squirrels"?
Offline
Huooommmrhuoomm .... Morlas is the "Prince of Squirrels" of course ... huommm ... as the name tells it is a black squirrel ...
Ahhh, that feels good to have you foxed for the first time, Master Barliman ... rhuoommm .. well, it's not about foxes ... hom ...
I recently received news that The Man sculpted a sqirrel he named Morlas, Prince of Squirrels ... huoommm ... you might remember that some while ago a squirrel was permanently mentioned on that other GF-board ... rhuoommm .... this very tiny piece was not meant as a Mithril release, of course .... rhuoommm ... but all this reveils that The Man has a close look at some places ....
rhuooommm ... Morlas, Prince of Squirrels, is a more or less private compensation for the Moria Gate .... huommm ... that's what I know ... hom ... I'll provide pictures in that 'Mathom House' once there's time .... rhuoooommmm ... alas, I should also provide the last riddle there next weekend .... huoommm .... a simple one, this time ...... hom

Yes the squirrel was that which the man mentioned to me at Salute, I think partly as recompense for a certain unmade portal, and partly I think because the suggestion of a squirrel was made with a certain amount of ............(sarcasm is perhaps too strong a word to use).
Well I guess one extreme to the other; the gate was too big so the squirrel would be very small It also shows a nice sense of humour as well methinks.
Offline
well, the name Morlas was not given by the Man, it was given ... by its suggestor... as Morlas mean Black Feather in Sindarin I think... If you look closely at the archives of the GF suggestions, for March 2008... you'll find more details

None of which is the sort of data I carry about in my noggin! I remember the squirrel suggestion being made at some point, but I was unaware someone had gone so far as to suggest a name for it. I don't speak Elvish, though - I have difficulty enough with Common Speech...
