Re: The Taproom

I was a bit 'rushed' in my reply, there was no squirrel name mentioned, but the Man was certainly going to sculpt one as a response to the 'suggestion'.

Re: The Taproom

oh but the name Morlas was given... but not by Chris, it is all explained in the suggestion post. Chris only kept the name submitted actually... indeed a pure invention non canon but... if I may ask
Does such a figurine have its place in the database?.... I think the decision is not mine to take, in this particular case smile

Re: The Taproom

Huoommmm .... you're right, Master Ddaines, this figure was meant as "a little compansation for the Moria Gate" .... rhuoommm .... yes, and also as a nice reaction to some sarcastic remarks ....huomm .... well, in the end Master Bombadil1963 received that squirrel .... as for the name I think Master Gildor is right, as it is taken from Sindarin 'môr-lass' which might be translated as 'dark leave' (not feather) ..... huooommm ... that's all I know .... hom ....

Re: The Taproom

huoomm ..... Master Gildor, I don't think that Morlas should have a place in the database because that figure is not a regular Mithril-release ... huom ... where to put him? ... I don' know, as there's no section that reads "curiosities" .... hom ... definitely that figurine is somewhere far away from any other category .... rhuoommm .... I'll hang a picture of that nice, tiny, squirrely prince in the Mathom House ..... rhuommm ... but I cannot haste, as might know ... hom

Re: The Taproom

I agree with the Tree. Morlas was a non-commercial one-off, produced as a favour for 'a friend' if you like. Certainly it's existence should be acknowledged somewhere (after all, it may appear for sale one day in the distant future!), but it isn't a true Mithril figure, either released or unreleased. Perhaps, as Master Theobald suggests, there should indeed be a special area for curios and oddities?

Re: The Taproom

well if you look closely the elven princess PM1 was not linked to mithril, but it is in the database nonetheless under the "unique and prototypes" type.. still the problem is not the kind (unique or prototype) but rather the series... I once created the Phaeton Miniatures series as this series is meant to have several references in the future, there is also the "unreleased prototypes" but that's not really the case here.... but I also created the "Non-Mithril Range" series for the MSA1 for example (lotro witch king) but this was not at the same time a non-mithril and a very special curiosity...

In the end.... I suggest this : Not put it in the database at all... as it has no reference, non applicable price, non applicable series, non applicable rarity and availability, or weapon... and from what I heard the quantity is far lower than even the rarest prototypes ever produced.... it is a curiosity and as such should have its place in the Mithril Gallery section... but not the database, that would be irrelevant....
What do you think?

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmm .... well, Master Gildor, the Gallery section might be a place to put him ... hom ... but as I said before, it's not the database .... rhuoommm .... why are we discussing these matters in the taproom, gentlemen?  .... huom .... anyway, as this has started here I might add two more comments if you please .... huommm .... as for his appearance on Ebay one day I think that there's notthe slightest "chance", Master Barliman .... hom ... and as for the quantity, Master Gildor, there are four castings, as far as I know .... rhuooommhom
Huoommm .... I'm satisfied with the fact that the Pony was a bit more frequented within the last hours ... though we all forgot to order any drinkable liquids ... so Master Barliman, would you please fill up my bowl and those thimbles for the others .... rhuoommm ... of course I'll pay for that somehow ... huooommm ... somewhen ... hom

Re: The Taproom

The amber liquid is on me this time, Master Tree.

And as for slightest chances, well, I wouldn't mind putting money on one of the squirrels coming up for sale sometime, somewhere, however far in the future. How likely was it five years ago that any of the Mw346 or Mw347 figures would ever materialise, let alone come up for sale? Strange things happen. This is, after all, a strange world.

On another matter entirely, The Man has just sent me an email about yet another upcoming M range! - and people will like this one as well. The only problem is that I shall probably explode with suppressed excitement long before I'm allowed to tell anyone about them.

Re: The Taproom

well master butterbur... there were far more castings of the mw346 or mw347 than there has been of this squirrel... only four castings... as Theobald said...

Re: The Taproom

mmhh gentlemen, i think the pony would not be a correct place to reveal such matters.... as I said earlier it is a public place and anybody , be he member or not could read it... Maybe we could use one of the other forums which are only open to authenticated and trusty users to reveal such info... this way, it would be secure..

Sorry, I didn't think about that. I agree, we should talk about things like this somewhere else.

Re: The Taproom

Sadly, it wouldn't matter where it came up for discussion, I still wouldn't be able to say any more about the new ranges until The Man authorised it. I was hoping that merely knowing new ranges are coming - and relatively soon - would be enough to cheer people up! Maybe that wasn't such a good idea. Perhaps people would prefer it if I hadn't said anything at all.

As for there only being four Big Squirrels, Master Gildor, there is only ONE of each work of art in the world, yet they are sold all the time. I've seen one-off GW prototypes on eBay on two separate occasions, so I can see no reason to believe that a Big Squirrel won't come up for sale at some point. Indeed, it would be naive to assume otherwise! I'm not talking about next week, or even next year, but some time over the years ahead. Rare things are worth money: ergo, they change hands at times for bagfulls of groats, lucre, dosh, mazuma or whatever your personal preference may be.

I really like the story of this squirrel. I would also love to see it available for other collectors, perhaps with a different number to distinguish it. smile

Re: The Taproom

Yes indeedy, Master Tree.

Incidentally, is anyone else finding Mithril's mailing department a bit slow at the moment? I placed an order for some Fellowship figures and DA dudes 18 days ago and still haven't got it. From the amount of money they charge for postage these days I was expecting a man in a helicopter to deliver it the very next day...

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmm .... they seem to be quite busy at the moment as I've heard ... rhuoomm ... I'm also waiting for some of that tiny metal things to arrive ... huoommm ... but why haste everything? ... huoommm ... what do you mean with 18 days I wonder ... what are 18 in a hundred or a million? ... rhuoommm .... you see, it all depends, so to say .... huoomm ....
ahem ... sorry, Master Barliman, but where to put those thoroughly-cleaned doormats ? ... ahh, I see ... next to the door over there .... now I do understand why those ragged furs are called door-mates .... rhuooommm, yes .... over here ... come on, leave that snarling, mate ... huoom ... alas ... as for the man in the helicopter I think he still tries to feed the machine with postage charges ... rhuoommm ... I think some fuel would do better ... rhuoommmhom ....
oh, just before I leave, what do you think of the Dark-Leave? .... Morlass .... môr (or) less? ....

Re: The Taproom

I don't think of it at all... you're becoming more and more like my friend Gandalf - always talking in riddles.

As for the number of days being of no import, they are when you need to send something on to someone in time to arrive for Yuletide. As it is, I don't think I'm going to catch the final mailing date. Shame. Someone is likely to be disappointed, I fear.

Re: The Taproom

Rhhuoommm ... jule you mentioned, Master Barliman? ... seems to be a word those people in the North do use ... huoommm ... hej, protar (inte: talar) du Swenska? Sâ [this d****d sign should read an "o" above that vocal ...alas ...huoomm] .... tar mej fan ... I give up ... mycke lycka för Barliman ... rhuoomm ... some words I still can recall ...
Well, I'm not talking in riddles, just trying to cope with that weird order on that keyboard here ...
rhhooommm ... hommmm ... what a name ... there's no key in that board ..... unless ......
..... alas .... none, of course ...
but what is a "final mailing date"? And why are you afraid? .... rhuoommm ...  you seem to be in a hurry, Master Barliman, .... hom ... so why not "finally outdating the mail"? ... rhuommm ....
oh, by the by, I didn't know that Gandalf's a friend of yours ... at least he didn't tell me, though we once considered to have the 'Pony' in Bree as a meeting place for .... well, you know ... hom.

Re: The Taproom

Not for drinking water, that's for sure. Gandalf has a soft spot for both the amber nectar and scrumpy.

And what a multi-lingual tree you are. I assume you have friends amongst the northern birches and firs?

Now I must go away and put on my thinking cap. I still haven't come up with any worthwhile ideas for the Dec/Jan Fellowship polls - well, none that don't involve horses. I hope the ban on mounted figures will end soon...

Re: The Taproom

Things are slow Barli, I ordered the Gandalf figure and DA foot dude and had to send Mary Ann a chaser email. I was informed that my shipment was posted the day of her reply (which was about 10 days after the order was made).

I've just ordered Sharkey as well seeing as the number is quite low, but who know's when he will finally shuffle into town smile. I ordered this figure in haste due as I said to the low number (just in case he sells out), but I am a bit peeved that there does not appear to be a grey primed version to buy (unless someone else knows differently), so I guess I will have to ask Mithril just in case they can send it in this form.

I too need to think up something as well, I should have written down:D all the ideas I have has in the past.

Anyhow, time for a drink, do you have any Mulled wine Barli?
