Perhaps it's the spiked punch at all of those holiday office parties.  I don't have any recent direct experience of this, you understand...

Re: The Taproom

I was wondering Master Barliman in your celebrating of the Yuletide if you are going to have a much decorated tree for Christmas in the "Pony"?

Re: The Taproom

Well than we have quarrels (with Orcish intruders) and squirrels, wich could make some quarrelling for some having no humour. And we have a tree, who is too hasty for a x-mas tree.
Interesting place in here, with such nice persons and trees, Elves and hobbits and so on.
good night to you folks!

Does anyone know where travelling Elrond will spend Christmas time?

Yes, well I have known a few...Hey, does anyone ever wonder what kinds of things keep the man so busy?  Check out this site of our old friend and Mithril lover, Jim Corless:
http://www.timemachineminiatures.com/  Be sure and look at the "on the work bench" stuff.  You'll see Chris at is best in 54 mm.  Also you'll see all the work done for one of his other passions, the Romans.  That series is over 10 years in the making.

Re: The Taproom

Amazing stuff from The Man, as ever.

And how can our resident unprocessed plank be so hasty that he can't stand about for a couple of weeks as a Xmas tree? Sounds like an i-deal (spot the pun?) job for him.

I have really been tempted by this Roman (can't spell the series name!) series of figures but I just know it would remain unbuilt as 'heirlooms of my house', still it is tempting though roll

Re: The Taproom

The main problem with 54mm figs, I always feel, is that although they have extra detail and look very pretty, what can you do with 'em once they're painted? At least you can 'play' with 28/32mm figs, whether as accessories to MERP or in full-blown wargames. And 54s take up much more room, proportionately, than their smaller counterparts! Besides, where in Middle-earth would I find the space to store over 5,000 54mm figs? My hobby room in the Pony is crowded enough already.

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmmm ... I was thinking about extending my collection to those Teutoburger Wald series some time ago .... huommm ... but I have to face the same problems Master Barliman has: there's not enough space for them and they shouldn't be hidden in box, I think .... hom ... then there's no time for painting any more .... hom... and that would mean to spend quite some amount of coiny things for them .... rhuoommm ... I just was tempted because I use to live in that area of the Teutoburger Forest ... quite close to the Arminius monument ... huoommm ... next year there's the anniversary ... hom ... 2000 years from AD 9 now ....  time passes quickly .... rhuoooommmmm ....

Re: The Taproom

Very interesting, Master Tree - now stand still so that Nob doesn't fall off his ladder while he's putting the tinsel on you. I'll put the lights up later.

[Moving away from the door, watching the ornamented tree spectaculum, hiding behind a table, disguising voice, equipping a helmet:] Shhhh - I  have heard there have been Ent Wives sighted at Teutoburger Forest ...

Re: The Taproom

One of those is Mrs Theobald .... huoomm ... but, alas, what is all this about? ... could someone please stop Nob hanging all that glittery tinselly stuff at my old boughs twigs and branches ... huoommm ... this is no substitute for my leaves .... grrrrruuuhooommm .... and by the way did you get the time wrong? .... "stand still" he says ... what are you all planning? .... is there a fancy dress party at the Pony tonight? ... huoommm ....

Re: The Taproom

Rh...u huooommm .... so there's no fancy dress party tonight? ... then what is this for? .... What about that joke with those shiny lights at me? ....  huoommm .... could you explain, please, Master Barliman .... hom ... I just called in to have a bowl of that ... clear, clean watery youknowhatliquid .... huom ... instead I was attacked by a small person pressing a ladder against my old body ... rhooomhuom ... then I was surrounded by whispery voices talking about Ent wives in the Teutoburger Wald ... hom ... now I'm tortured by the barkeep ..... alas, would you mind to rename this place 'The Haunted Pony', Master Barliman. .... "hang on" you said ... huomm ... hang on to what precisely? ..... ouch! ... that rascal just put the ladder on one of my roots .... so what exactly is pretty about this, Master Barliman? .... huoommmm

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmmm .... well, but why, Master Barliman. ... huoommm ... and what about all these other additional shinily-reflecting things that meanwhile cover me? .... rhuoommm ... must be a prize in return for owning the biggest heap of those tabs over there ... rhuoommm ... hom ... to be honest, I bought each and every one of those ... though you always keep them over there ... huommm ... and as there are some other piles meseems you're a collector ... huom ... so am I ... never mind, of course you can keep them ... rhuoommm ....

Huoommm ... could mean an enlightened end then (whatever that means) ... rhuooommm ... words are limited, you know ... hom ... anyway .... rhuoomm ... I dunno ... hom
