Well it's cool here too, but we still haven't seen any frost. Strangest of all, and indicative of how warm it's been, yesterday I saw a bee and a butterfly, and there are still crickets chirruping away in the garden.

Yeah, we only had our first sub zero night last week, and there's a threat of a wet flurry later. Verrry late winter here. Grey as all hell, though.

All very worrying, in global warming terms.

I submitted the idea of crowdfunding as a replacement for the "commissioning" proposed by Mithril.
As all of you may know,  in hobbies, such as lead figurines, recurent crowdfunding has become an established and quite approved business model that assures producers to not make mistakes and control the production very precisely.

Yes. Reaper, Red Box, Dark Sword have all done successful kickstarters. I suspect we shall see more of them in the hobby world beyond the three or four major hobby producers. It brings in cash, gets product lines going, creates community engagement and generates buzz.

I'd love to see crowdfunding for the Easterling and for the Helm's Deep 3 range. I wonder, however, if the first experiment should be something else, something really iconic. Though what, I have no idea.

All the things that count as iconic so far as LOTR or The Hobbit are concerned have already been modelled by Mithril, I suspect. I certainly can't think of anything obvious.

Nice to see a customer who is so easily pleased! Have you suggested anything for the next Fellowship vote yet?

How about the Battle of the Five Armies itself?

Similar sized range as The Battle of Mirkwood, with three different Mirkwood Elf warrior poses, three different Warriors of Laketown poses, three different Iron Hills Dwarf poses, along with Bolg and a couple of his warriors (perhaps "canonise" the Phaeton Goblins), along with bats and wolves. Throw in Fili and Kili as named figures on the Dwarven side. (Since Gloin, Balin, Fili, Kili and Thorin are the only Dwarves who get much in the way of screen time, and we have miniatures for the others).

Mithril can thematically link this to ranges they have going now (Dwarves, Classics) and the boxed sets.  They can show off The Unexpected Party set, the Bilbo Presents the Arkenstone set, and so on.

Re: THE TAPROOM 3

Ah, but you're talking about Mithril regular 'M' ranges, which don't seem to be being released any more. I was referring to Fellowship figures. However, the as yet unmodelled Dwarves of Thorin's retinue are certainly a possibility that had slipped my mind (and everyone else's, I suspect).

Sorry, Gavin, you have to say ONE warrior pose. This pose will be doubled up. So there will be only five figures wich need to be sculpted.
With a lot of luck, the pose of a "whatever-range-figure" range already exist. Maybe for the orc range . . .

And Gavin- you are about thinking mithril want´s to sell miniatures. Which they certainly don´t.

Sorry to be that sarcastic, but I am fed up a bit at present . . .

Re: THE TAPROOM 3

It's good sometimes to express out what upsets us. And it's not often visible on elves wink
So I like to see you today (tough I'm a bit scared with that low bow...)

Have a drink with me Master Elf, I'm sure you won't be upset to talk about those leaves all around this place...

Re: THE TAPROOM 3

My round of drinks for everybody smile and I'll take some hot chocolate here as it is growing cold outside!!

just wanted to let you all know that i made a post on the official forum suggesting some idea or concepts for mithril GF and future releases. It is here :
http://mithrilfigures.proboards.com/thr … llTo=11202

please send me feedback about it.... (I did not mention the "price", in my proposition on the official board, but assuming sets take less costs to produce the price of a given figurine inside a set would mechanically be far lower than single figurine and would allow GF 'real single' special' to focus on ... special... assuming their sculpting is also "special" and could justify a price
I can no long accept -same as you master Archer- the fact that a simple woman, or even an infantryman or whatever "common" personna be released for 21€ whereas it should be 1) FAR less expensive (10€ max) 2) be comprised in a set of figurines of the same theme and not "lonely"

Re: THE TAPROOM 3

well indeed, but at least there is word about that rather than silence, that's  better than nothing.... (I mean official word, we all knew what Michael said already....)

if 3D printing (for master only of course) can improve things, why not... I know Chris is working on mastering his own art style in 3D rendering for months now maybe that's the future.

I have nothing against IF the style of Chris is maintained AND if the castings remain in prince august metal (or Phaeton metal... I don't know which metal Chris is using for hiw own production but I like it)

You don't necessarily need 3d printing for production, just prototyping.  If Mithril could get their hands on a high quality 3d printer to make the first figures and then cast the rest traditionally, it would work as well.  Just saw this on my twitter feed: http://instagram.com/p/vjmtYTAnwt/ as an example of a 3d modelled prototype.

I am sure Chris Tubb could work his magic with something like this.
