Re: Recent works

I love the vignette, especially the details of the room.

This is the hour of the Shire-folk, when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and counsels of the Great

Re: Recent works

Thanks for showing your paintings Master Maenas.

If you let me say few words, I'm not sure about "manga" eyes for mithrils. roll
About your painting, it is very neat, with good contrasts. Maybe mate varnish would provide better rendering.

I like the eagle grey color. This is not usual and well executed.

Good to see new paintings for MMP database. big_smile

Yes you are right, indeed, they are the first miniatures that I paint the eyes in this way.
I have always painted the eyeball white, then paint the pupil black. On these instead, I painted the eyeball brown/black, then painted the sides of the pupil white, and tried also at the same time to leave "blank" space around. I know that I must improve the final result, but I prefer it over my previous technique!

Have someone else tried a different thing, or maybe in a different manner for the eyes issue? (I do not like to leave them blank, at all)

Trying to improve these too... in fact I bought a colour wheel to work on colour mixing in a different way to produce different tones and colours.
Before these ones, I had never used an opposite colour to "tone down" the original colour. Let's say to explain that sentence that, before, if I wanted a less shiny orange I used, dark red, brown or black, to do so, but now I will try to do it with blue. And the same with yellow/purple, etc.

There is a little story behind xD...
The brand I had been using all these years, has the name of the paint on the cap, with normal colours like bright green, dark green, etc. there is no confusion at all because I know those colours, but with varnish... without the cap they look exactly the same!!! And I have the habit to leave the pots opened and take the picture from the cap to put on my palette. Normally I perfectly allocate the caps, but that time I mixed those two caps, and now I do not know witch bottle is witch kind of varnish! xDD

On the other hand, the brand I am used to (some pots I own have more than 10-15 years) it is not available any more in Spain ("Miniature Paints" was distributed by Juegos sin Fronteras) I am now on the process to try new brands, to replace my old pots and colours, in fact I am also trying new techniques such as wet blending (that I used without knowing the name), wet palette, new brushes, new colours like I mentioned before, etc. so I am revitalising and actualising my painting hobby in general.

And on a side note, I do not like glossy miniatures, if there is no reason for them to shine (metal parts, wet areas, etc..) so I prefer matte or rather satin ones ^^
I would probably revarnish those shiny ones, maybe with a spray can instead of brushing them.

Thank you master! I tried to make an effort to imitate another breed(?<-- not know if this is the correct word) of eagle. Great that you appreciate it.

Thanks for the comments wink.

Re: Recent works

The first things I paint on a figure, are the eyeballs ; then with a very fine point I put the the pupil on it, and then I paint the skin, covering all the white around the eyes that is too much, untill the 'staring effect' is gone. I'm very satisfied with the results of this technique.

Where there is a will there is a way, just as there are no problems, only solutions! Guess it depends on ones own perspective of the matter at that time big_smile
