seems that it is also quite calm in the Mithril company. The announcing of the painting competition is pushed again into the far future, no previews of upcoming releases and so on. In think more should be done to keep customers be interested in the great products Mithril has to offer. To gave customers the feeling that "something is happening" needs to be.
Maybe re-designing of the homepage would do something.
I guess we should be thankful that we are not avid collectors of Thunderbolt Mountain figures who put Mithril in the shade when it comes to new releases nice as they are.
I have to admit to wondering why Mithril needs to be so secretive or reluctant to keep us informed of new releases, even allowing for the approval process a 'subject to TE approval' strap line would at least give some food for thought and not keep everyone guessing as to what's coming next, and quite frankly it dulls the enthusiasm and is a tad boring.
Still, I'm not buying anything at the moment anyway, GF or otherwise, funds needed elsewhere

. . . so, Mr. David Daines, time for concentrate yourself concerning concept-art for your next diorama . . .
I also realized the calmness, here and there. But if the man has got the same problems as myself, it is no wonder. He is working !
And he wants to meet his requirements. That can take more time as usual, sometimes . . .

The odd thing about Mithril is when they don't even release the stuff they do have. The M range I've hinted at on several occasions - the one that's now been mentioned as the prize in the painting competition - has been at the factory awaiting release since November, TE-approved and all. So I can't understand why they can't just get their proverbial finger out and get on with releasing them. It's not as if they'd clash with any other releases - there aren't any!

Dear Master Barliman,
interesting to hear!! But that is exactly what I mean. The marketing strategy is bad. If you have a look at other figure companies, there are always informations about what will be released next, there is rumour, there are photos and so on. That is needed to keep customers interested. I was always surprised by new releases of Mithril, which made it hard to plan saving money for small lead figures.

You may try, Master Tree, but you'll never learn how to be hasty.
On another subject entirely, has anyone else seen GW's "War of the Ring" trailer on YouTube, or on their website? Take a look:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte … d=12800007
Now why can't Mithril do something like that, but even better? Having a high profile is one of the key reasons why GW figures sell and Mithrils don't - or at an even more fundamental level, it's why the majority of people have heard of GW but haven't heard of Mithril.
(If the linky thing above doesn't work, go to the GW site, select "Lord of the Rings", go to "War of the Ring Articles" in the menu at left, click on the "Collecting" strapline, and choose "Incoming: War of the Ring".)

That´s right, Master Barliman. Being a part of the mithril-world for- at last 11 years I make up my thoughts about exactly this very often.
And it´s getting closer through the years than otherwise-interesting, isn´t it . I think the starting point was somewhere around the change of the old webside.
For me it is a little pity that mithril is not able to profit their potential, which is extremely - due to the Man´s abilities.
Wonderful miniatures -mostly- and that has not to be mentioned here in detail.
BUT...on the other side I was always glad not being a member of a mass movement. It was always something soothing, that mithril is somewhere out there.
It has something to do with, well let me call it exclusiveness.
Unfortunately that is not the thought that remains . . .

Let me say something more. The movie is nice. The point is, they made it !
Decision makers ( as announced by themselves: NOT too many ) of the company of our trust - usually- have not
even time to announce a winner being a part of THREE of an Painting Competition orginating by themselves.
If there is not the time being necessary for announcing winners ( for what reasons ever ) those decision makers should make their mind of
if such a Painting Competition is useful. For me I am a kind of fed up looking on the webside if maybe this week is the first week of march.
PS: Yes I feel free now, because I have to through away the pain . . .

if the movie I saw is the right one... I have a full answer to give you on why Mithril don't and will never make such a movie.
This movie presents wargaming. LOTR Figurine Wargaming licences goes to Games Workshop. end of the line.
If Mithril affirms themselve at doing OFFICIALLY the same ---> Trial ---> Mithril closes, GW will have won, they only wait for that...
Mithril cannot afford to make official wargaming that is forbidden for them, the licence is exclusive to Games Workshop.
Now, if it was to make presentations, with dioramas, figurines with a context without any connotation of wargame why not.
But even if some mithril customers are wargamers... this "domain of activity" must remain unofficial for Mithril from the last news I know and that's mainly the reason why they have so many difficultires releasing army sets under special cover of not being open wargaming... and also the reason why the MW warbands were removed, or canceled from market.
(and I suggest that such discussion, and my own post here, be debated elsewhere than the Prancing Pony which is public and could be google-ized by GW addicts/spy who could use it against Mithril, no I'm not paranoïd, just careful )

Huoommm ... right you are, Master Gildor ... hom ... concerning the last part of your entry .... rhuoommm ... right indeed ... huomm ... though I'm sure many people here have not been aware of this .... rhuoommm ... take care

I haven't, and wouldn't, suggest that Mithril should produce a wargaming video - why would they want to? I don't even suggest that Mithril figures should be used for wargaming - perish the thought! - although what people choose to do with their own figures once they've bought them is entirely up to them, not GW, nor TE, which would be ludicrous. As would presenting Mithril as a wargaming company, which it obviiously isn't even to a GW spy (are there such tnings? Do they look anything like that friend of Bill Ferny's?).
The only points I was attempting to make - though I've seemingly failed entirely! - is that YouTube is a great means by which to promote a product, that a great video could be produced to showcase Mithril's figures, and that it should be given serious consideration by Mithril.
And I certainly can't see the harm of discussing the idea in the Pony. Otherwise the Pony might as well not be here. Or if it does need to be discussed elsewhere, then I need to know where 'elsewhere' is. Is there a secret room that can't be penetrated by these mysterious GW spies I've never seen nor heard of?
Now I'm going to have a drink. I feel the need for one.

You are completely right, Master Barli, completely. No mounted figures suggestions in the GF and no critical words in the pony . . .
From your words above I am not able to come to conclusions that mysterious spys, I have never seen nor heard of them either, can use something against mithril.
Deeply sorry Gildor, I can not follow your train of thought.

Huooommmm ... why worry about that merchandising at all? ... rhuoomm ... as for me I think that GW-trailer is a bit, well ... amateurish ... huom ... so it fits well to most of the figures they provide ... rhuooommm ...
Concerning spies I do not care at all as the Prancing Pony has always been a place open to everybody ... rhuoommm ... with this I don't want to express that I like spies ... what I like is spice .... huoommmmmhomhooooohhhhmm

O.K. Master Theobald. I also take a hump.
Concerning spies. Wasn´t it the prince of Rohan himself who was looking for those Isengard-spies . . .
Maybe a look in the gallery section of Mayor Samwise can proove this . . .

well seems I misunderstood the statement above then indeed movies would be cool... I thought you meant "this kind of movies"... as for my other discussion about wargaming... well it has no more reason to be there if there was a misunderstanding at first.
when I say spy though I don't mean any of us here are "spies" I just mean that everything written in the pony can be, and will be one day accessible directly through a google search pointing directly to this thread of conversation.
as for critical, well you can be critical not a problem
nevermind what I said before, it is irrelevent (due to the fact I did not understand master barli the way I should have

Reasonable people around here. Nice to be a part of them . . .

Agreed.
As for the GW vid being, well, let's say 'unsophisticated' rather than 'amateur', that was also in part my point. It wouldn't cost very much to put a vid together that was at least as good as the GW one, and which could easily be better. In other words, a useful bit of promotion of the Mithril name could be genertated for a very reasonable cost. Blimey (as we say in Bree), even one of us could do it and put it on YouTube (well, one of us with a camera and a little editing experience, that is...which I admit excludes yours truly).

A Middle Earth Collectors video would be nice to see, based around Mithril's contribution to Tolkien's world, or even a Prince August video with Mithril obviously playing a prominent part.
Properly done I believe there is no need to imply that the figures are for wargaming and therefore step onto the thin ice, but with a selection of collectors galleries the point could be put across that Mithril figures are versatlie for all needs; sorry I can't recall whose figures they were but those images of armies of Mithril figures that have been posted before are fantastic ambassadors for the company. The fact that the figures are being used by the collector for a war game is beyond Mithril's control as to what people use their products for; plus the diorama and vignette builders like myself, Wendy, Rita.de etc. can show again how versatile Mithril figures are and how you DON'T have to convert a swinging swordsman to make a relaxed Elven warrior, because Mithril do non-fighting poses.
But getting back to the frustration of the Company as a whole, look at the PA Fantasy Armies range, what range! Exactly! 32mm Elves with no one to do battle against! I was really looking forward to seeing what else might crop up to fill in 'background clutter' with CT sculpted figures, but unless anyone knows any different I guess that is it, an Elven army with no enemy.
I suppose I had better have a look at the GW video now.

Rhuoomm...hom... And how I wish those 'metal things' would start coming! And I don't mean the coiny things, either. But there still seems to be no news on that front - unless one of you knows better...?

It would be an ideal time to release the next range of "Shhhhh, you know who...." figures right now as Saturday sees SALUTE 2009 open its doors.
I'm not sure if I shall be there this year, nowt to do with no CT/Mithril freebie figure, but funds are low so I'm not sure if I could afford anything, and having missed the deadline for advance entrance tickets I shall have to queue up with the riff-raff, lol.
But it may be worth going along for some rumours I supose. Well if I do and if I hear anything, I'll let you know.

The next "you know who" figures are released on 4/4 and 18/4, so technically they'll miss Salute, but I guess they'll probably be selling the 4/4 releases there. I hate to say it, but some of these are rather good (from a purely aesthetic and specifically movie viewpoint); but some are also, er, crap.

Mmmnnn! it might be worth popping along, 'brassic' as I is , I heard the exchange rate this morning
, ounce for ounce of metal GF Mithrils are getting to be rather prohibitive.

You can say that again. I'm still due to buy two more figures from 'last' year, but at the moment I really can't justify the massive outlay that it would entail.
As for the GW figures, take a look at them on their website and form your own opinion before you fork out any spondulicks and then want to recoup your losses by removing portions of a certain publican's hide....
