Nob, would you please serve that Man in the dark over there a liquid he prefers most? ... huom ... I tell you that you right now have the time doing that as this is an order! ... gruooomm.

Re: The Taproom

Many thanks for that Tom, had it been a full length film (LotR) I would have preferred it to the PJ version smile I actually found it to be a lot more 'natural' if that is the right word to use to watch, and atmospheric.

40 minutes of my life well spent, thank you.

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmm ... as it has become so quiet around here let me talkative Ent interrupt this silence, please ... huoommm .... I just had a look at that first Helm's Deep release ... huom...
I have to admit that I was impressed very much ... rhuoooomm ... very nice details obviously and brilliant poses ... huom ... now, I again realized why I didn't like those GW-figures ... hom!!
Those half-orcs of Saruman might turn out to become the strongest army ever released by Mithril (in case you add all those earlier releases, including the Dunlendings, or straw-heads, if you like to call them that way) ... rhuoomm ... adding those 20 of the unreleased Mw347 ... huom

I think Mistress Wendy will be delighted about the new Rohirrim, though, of course, they are not mounted wink

Huooommrhuoomm ... then I felt happy about the way The Man put an end to the discussion about female orcs ... rhuoommm ... hom ... that was the most convincing argument referring to Saviga .... huoomm ...

Alas, Nob, could you please haste a little bit in transferring that bowl from the bar to me table, please? .... rhuoommhom ... my throat has become a desert talking that much again .... huoomm...???  ... no, no dessert ... alas ... huommm ... I wish Master Barliman was here ... hom

Re: The Taproom

Those are beautiful figures.

All I have to do now is paint my current Rohir militia warband up. And all the other stuff that needs doing. And then I'll have... lots of Rohir militia. Or something.

Certainly beat the stuffing out of the plastic GW Rohir fyrd guys (who would have been nice enough models had they been cast better). By the release of this range there will be about 9 seperate variants of Rohan footsoldier types to collect all readily available from Mithril.

Be nice to see a Rohan captain and standard bearer and maybe another three warior variants before the range is done. Certainly now that GW is abandoning their skirmish rules for their large combat rules, having a nicely detailed warband of Rohir figures for skirmish games is lovely.

I was just thinking out loud, Master Tree.

I've already made a plan to create a Rohan standard bearer as a conversion. I'll get it done...eventually!

Re: The Taproom

Rhuooommm ... I didn't want to criticize anything around here .... huoomm ... except the fact that some doormats should have been cleaned by now .... huoommm ... this time they're not that muddy but rather dusty ... huoomm ... and the service in these premises is declining ... huooomm ... could be, because  some barkeep, who rather prefers to spend me money on some islands instead of keeping this "Pony" a proper place ... rhuoommm ... is absent ... hom.
As for you Master Gildor, you don't have to haste in updating ... rhuoommm ... take your time and don't haste  ... gruooohoommmhuom ... there will be more to add this year .... huoom ...
Huoomm ... Master Gavin, no insult taken nor witnessed ... huoomm .. sometimes I also do think out loud .... rhuoomm ... and sometimes a bit too extensive ... hommm ... so it's up to me to excuse for that ..... rhuoommhhmmm

Re: The Taproom

I hope nobody will get mad at me for my post on the May voting thread on the official forum. I simply said once again what was my point of view on what the Gold Fellowship and Fellowship figurines in general should be. But that's only my opinion of course.

On a side note : all the new figurines from Gamling's Rally range are now in the database with full info (except price) and the picture... (even the number of parts are provided, courtesy of Mithril to have given me this info prior to the sale)

Re: The Taproom

I don't know if anyone noticed, but look at M513 shield design. It has a horse on the bottom of the bottom and a tower on the top. This looks really interesting.

Re: The Taproom

indeed, master Jason, indeed ! I have noticed that also ! big_smile
A fantastic detail by the incredible Mr.Tubb !!!!
People know that Gamling was the leader of the few guys representing the guard on Helms deep!
So being guard of the stronghold of Helms Deep needed a different shield design to the common rohan warriors, - apparently . . . !
That seems to be the reason for that "tower", meseems .

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmm ... that's a very good explanation, Master Rita.de .... huom ... though I, too, am not convinced whether that tiny symbol really represents a tower ... hooom. So let's wait until we can hold that figure in our hands or twigs ... rhuom.

Hey I heard they make some "valar nectar" down in Valinor... quite strange and refreshing though I'm not sure about its diet properties... I think they call it "Coca Cola"  ever heard of it? if you have some, please count me in!

Re: The Taproom

Those are indeed sweet figures -and a big thank you to Gildor for getting them posted quickly!  Here is my ranking of my Rohir favorites (based on the photos):
1)  M513 - exquisite pose, great armour, very menacing figure
2)  M510 - great job on the face and hair to go along with cool combat pose
3)  M509 - really good job on the face and beard, makes him look old but tough as nails, and splendid armour
4)  M512 - great facial features, great job on leather armour
5)  M511 - still a nice model, but my least favorite due to stiff pose

But I am only a novice at this.  And I'd gladly take any of them!!

As an aside, why the big focus on half-orcs?  If I recall, there was mention of half-orcs in the Isengard force but most of the focus was on Uruk Hai.  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the models.  Just curious.

George

Re: The Taproom

Your recollection is a bit rusty :p

The whole deal with Isengard was that they had half orcs. Lots of them. Half orc spies, half orc warriors, half orc whatever else.

Uruk-Hai were from Mordor, generally. It's all a bit confused, but the gist seems to have been that a band of orcs and half orcs from Isengard ambushed the Fellowship at Amon Hen. These orcs and half orcs were joined by a force of Uruk Hai from Mordor as well as orcs from Moria (who had been vaguely chasing after the Fellowship).

The orcs make a loose alliance, with the aim of delivering the hobbits to safety, so they may be suitably rewarded. The Mordor Uruks think that a Nazgul will be waiting for them. The Isengard orcs and half orcs believe that Saruman will take them. The Moria orcs don't get a say since the others helpfully kill them.

Then the whole vile bunch of them ran into Eomer, who killed them all.

The thing to remember that orcs in Middle Earth until the last years of the Third Age were probably more dwarf sized than man sized. The Uruks (bred for Sauron in Minas Morgul) don't show up until the 2700s, and they were barely man height. And, crucially, they were useless in daylight.

Half orcs weren't. They could go and pillage all day and so forth, if they felt so inclined. They did.

What confuses things is that the term Uruk Hai seems to be applied to both the Uruks and half-orcs in Saruman's army. It sort of makes sense. The "hai" bit means "men" or people. So Uruk Hai sort of means orc-men (ie, half orcs) and the orc-people (the orciest of the orcs).

I need to go re-read that chapter to make sure. But as a rule of thumb, the core of Saruman's army were half-orcs, orcs and loyal thugs from Dunland.
