oh by the way... I got a mail from Chris.... for information, he is only consultant since late 90's with Mithril, he does not own any part of the company since that time he is "freelance" and works far from Mithril... So he can't have his word at all in Mithril marketing, sculpting, and dispatching politics alas...

By the way, has anyone received their Helm's Deep figures yet?
today I have received the figs.
But twice (in two parcels and with two Bills.).
I have an autoshipment but only for the Fellowship- Range.
I don´t know what I can make now.
Offline
Maybe you've got mine as well, because I haven't...

Hello Barliman,
don´t worry.
The two bills are on my name

That sounds ideal. You pay, I get the figures...
The odd thing is that you're half a continent away and you've got your figures already, whereas Bree is just down the road from Ireland and yet my order hasn't got here. I'm sure our resident Tree will just say I'm being hasty, but I prefer to think of it as enthusiasm.

Huoommm ... right you are, Master Barliman, hasty you are ... rhuoommm ... obviously this time the Company started to send the figures in the wrong alphabetical order ... rhuoomm ... starting with "Z" .... huommm ... that might mean you will have to keep more patience as the second last letter then would be "B" ... rhuoomm ... just to be honest ... I dunno ... all I can witness is the fact that it's strange, somehow ... rhuoommm ...

It seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.....

Well, starting in the wrong alphabetical order sending the minis as Master Tree supposed, mithril comes to the "L" !
I have received my minis this morning ! So fellows, whatch out !
I must come back to the primer-discussion:
The primer quality is awful ! It is thick, too thick and not every side of the miniature is covered. You know, collectors,
there is not only the front and the back side . . . . Very bad, sorry of detecting this.
Something positive: The Man´s work is brilliant !

I have received mine today too... I am - still - a bit disapointed with
1) bent swords...
2) the gray undercoat which is very very bad quality (too thin with gray white dots, or too thick with details removed...)
*sigh*
I really wonder what we can do to have a good quality for "what we pay for"
Offline
Because of the very awful quality you have to put the primer away anyway and prime the mini for yourself.
I would suggest, that mithril leave the primer !
The shipping will be faster than !
PS: Holger, what do you say . . .

As I've commented before, I've never seen the point of the undercoating. It's fine when it's been done well, but it's problematic when it hasn't been.
But I can't pass judgement regarding its quality on the new figures, since I still haven't got mine...

Huooommmm ... I also received those ten tiny things today ... huom ... still not those two MS ... rhuoommm ... yes, the primer really is a problem, there I do completely agree with you ... huommmm ... that's a good idea, Master Rita.de, the Company should keep from priming those figures .... huom, yes the quality of the sculpting really is excellent ... and as for those discussions about prices I can state that the discount for the 'autoshipment' still works well ... huomrhuoomm

Well, the postman has been, and I STILL haven't got my figures.
Grumble, grumble, grumble...

I'm not sure why Mithril carries on with undercoating the figs. The quality over the years has varied so much. Didn't they dabble with non-coated figs with the bulk sales of Lossarnach figs, not to mention the LT series? I understand that at one time, it set apart Mithril from other manufacterers, with a unique look with the grey primer. But now, it seems moot, as we rarely see Mithrils with other figs in shops.
It would be an immediate and obvious cost savings to not prime the figs. No materials, labor, work space and time spent. A no brainer!
Offline
Completely right, Master Presto, completely right.
And exactly that point of saving production-costs should be tell to them.

Yes, and the spraypainter could go and pack Master Barlis minis, so that he stops complaining.....

Offline
*hint* why do you think I posted about the primer in the mithril price section on the official board
hehe
I had thought about the same
Offline
I like the primer.
I could also happily live without it. Vallejo grey spray paint is a pretty decent primer for stripped Mithrils and is nice to paint with. The damn Knights of Dol Amroth figures had features so fine that the primer obscured it.
So I'd suggest ditching the primer for M figures.

Huoooommmm ... meseems that all around here are of the same opinion .... huommhom ... yes, I read that Master Gildor at once gave his comment on the official Mithril board in public ... huom
Offline
Perhaps a compromise of "mail order only" undercoat free figures?
We just get the "raw" figure, while the few retail shops get the blistered M-series figure with undercoat?

Why complicate life? Just get rid of the wretched stuff. It's doing The Man's skills as a sculptor no favours at all.
Offline
There are two possibilities:
people are speechless about the THICK PASTE , mithril calls it "primer" .
people are speechless about the abilities of The Man.
Maybe both things are determining . . .

I've FINALLY just got my figures! Shame they've been undercoated in custard. Now, where'e my stripper? (no, Mrs B, I didn't mean you, get back behind the bar...)
Offline
. . .like on that famous Devon Cream, Master Barli . . . ?! Nice comparison . . .
I will spend my time diving into some slipperily fantasies . . .
Hope, that "the protagonist" won´t wear mauve stockings . . .
PS: enjoy the minis, Barli, nevertheless they are great.

But have you noticed how relatively "small" the new figures are compared to Mithril's usual allegedly 32mm scale?
