Re: The Taproom

Weird is absolutely correct, Master Archer. I shall have to reduce the amount of mushroom that I put in the scrumpy. It's obviously having a detrimental effect on those who imbibe more than the recommended daily dose.

Re: The Taproom

Well mushrooms would certainly be better than rats in the scrumpy.

Theo, I thought I read a post from Michael apologizing for the primer problem and offering to replace figures if a customer was unhappy (no mention of who would pay postage, but assume we pay to return the figure and they pay to ship a new one with the improved primer recipe). If you haven't already gone to the trouble of striping and repriming, you might want to contact Mithril to see if my memory is correct about this.

As for the latest Witchking suggestion, I can only say this is the type of thing that leads to suggestions for figures like female assassins and troll standard bearers. As rite.de says, just don't vote for it!

Oh well, off again to secure the perimeter against Trolls and Orcs; back in a few days.

Re: The Taproom

Actually, it's rats AND mushrooms in the scrumpy. I also toss in the odd apple from time to time, but not too many - I wouldn't want to spoil the flavour.

As for the Mithril recall, the email reads:

"Due to the uneven quality of the last release of Helms Deep figures we have decided to offer anyone who is not happy with the quality of the figures to exchange it for a new figure. We are very sorry for this lapse in our quality control and the inconvenience for our customers. These quality issues are now sorted out and we will underwrite any Mithril figure to have the highest quality standard. Any customer who is not happy with the production quality of a figure can return it to us for an exchange."

However, it doesn't mention the MS figures, and is headed "Mithril LOTR Helm's Deep recall" as if only Gamling and his companions are included. Make of that what you will. I remember some comments at the time (about ten days ago) on the lines of "What about the Fellowship figures?"

As yet I don't know if Mithril have been approached regarding custard-covered GF figures. Has anyone tried?

Re: The Taproom

mmh, I am glad that there is another one out there blaming the Gf´s primer as well: Master Theobald!
I would like referring to my post  #2179 !
Handicrafting the Troll Trio is disastrous. Especially for mithril enthusiastic people who are spoiled with well-fitting figures through twenty years.
NEVER had to use Green Stuff . . . NEVER !

PS: by the way, is there somebody who can give me a short instroduction of how to use that Green Stuff . . .

Re: The Taproom

Rhhuooommhuommm ... I am aware of that 'recall-offer', Master Twrich ... but it doesn't interest me as by now I managed to assemble and reprime those Trolls ... rhuomm ... well, and that 'recall' just refers to them Gamling party ... huommm ...
As for your query, Master Barliman, huoommm ... yes, someone took steps to approach Mithril concerning that what you call 'custard-covered' figures ... huoommm ... indeed that was done some weeks ago, though indirectly, so to say, as The Man was informed first ... rhuoommmm.... then someone was very much surprised learning that The Man was not aware at all about that problem ... huoommm ... not at all, I said ... hom ... that same Man took immediate action on that matter ... rhuoommm ... a bit surprised he seemed to be as he did not receive any primed figures from the Company ... huoommmm ... someone contacted him because someone really doesn't want to see them upcoming Dwarves being spoiled with that slimy stuff .... huoom ..
as for your question, Master Rita.de, yes I could provide some advice about that 'green stuff' ... huoommmm ... though I have to mention that that material was provided by a company I do not like to mention here ... rhuoommmm .... what I really do prefer is that the Company (those Irish lads, I mean) would provide more of that smooth 'metal-stuff' that was delivered with the MB62 box ... rhuoommm ... that was much more better than that 'green stuff' ... huoommm ... one or two years ago I suggested to have it offered again for coping with some problems in assembling parts of figures ... huoommm ... it worked so well once ... huoommm ... so far no one listened to me ... alas ... rhuoommm ... talkative I was again ... anyway ... I hope it doesn't matter .... hom

Re: The Taproom

You've missed my point, Master Tree - what I was wondering was whether anyone has approached Mithril specifically as regards replacing custard-covered MS figures, rather than the Helm's Deep chappies.

Re: The Taproom

Master Tree, I am really aware of that product-license-stuff-green-stuff thing. "Green Stuff" is a synonym. Somewhere around my working place
I suppose finding a pack of that called "Miliput", it has to be that silver-grey-edition, which was more expensive . . .Good old days . . .
Lets create "Silver Stuff" according to this material the dwarves had found in that well known place, I suggest.
I also suppose that this material in the old Smaug box was Miliput as well, don´t you think . . .

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... I dunno how that silvery stuff you referred to, Master Rita.de, was once called ... rhuoommm ... though I'm sure we're talking about the same good old thing ... rhuooommm ...
in those good old days you referred to it wasn't necessary to mix some blue and yellow paste to become green once being mixed and be ready to play with some modelling clay ... rhuoomm...  that was what our Elf would call "La résine verte" .... anyway that what you call "Silver Stuff" was much more better ... rhuoommm ... though you always had to keep it closed from air ... rhuommm ...
Just to be honest, Master Rita.de, I do have no contact to any Dwarves at the moment ... though I will try .... rhuommm ... huom ...hom ... there was a double L in that name, wasn't it? ... I'm not sure about this .... huooommmmrhuooommm

There are other companies that make "green stuff" besides the one that shall remain nameless.  Duro and Kneadatite are also blue and yellow putties that are mixed.

To use them (or any other two part putty), mix the amount you need (which is not much for filling seams) in the proportion suggested by the manufacturer.  Glue the parts together (whether you pin or not is up to you), then mash a little bit of the very well mixed putty into the gap and smooth a bit with the fingers.  Either water, alcohol (isopropyl), or hand lotion can be used to smooth out the putty.  (If hand lotion is used, that spot must be washed and sanded a little or that spot will be shiny.)  If you cannot reach a spot with your fingers, and old brush can be used to smooth it out as well.  It usually takes about two hours for the putty to harden.  Voila!  Filled in seam.  smile

There's green stuff, brown stuff, grey stuff, Kneadatite, Duro, ProCreate, Magic Sculp, A+B, Milliput, and others...the only stuff I wouldn't use is Sculpey because it must be baked to harden.

Re: The Taproom

I use Milliput. Much easier to use than the stuff from 'the-company-that-shall-not-be-named'. Ideally it should be left to go 'off' just a little (for a few minutes) before you try to do anything really clever with it, otherwise it can have a tendency to 'tear'.

Re: The Taproom

well I personnaly use Miliput.... or, sometime I am a bit raw and I use thise two component "fixing" paste" used for repairing stuff in tinkering or so (this past has a relatively hot exothermic reaction but it is then hard in less than 2minutes after mixing... that's only great if you really know what you are doing... but it can then be smoothed easily.

I have trying to find this silver-gray one-component paste that was released in the MB62 boxed set, I have never managed to find anything similar... That was a perfect paste though in tiny quantity and perfect too if you did not want to paint your figurine and display it unpainted but "well"assembled.

I miss this product...

Have you asked Mithril if they can provide details of who manufactured it? You never know, it might still be in production.

Michael, in the last newsletter, shows two pics with following MS figures: Celebrian and Durin VI. Both are great (as almost always happens with the creations of The Man). I particularly like the "finesse" with which he treated to Celebrian. Her hairstyle and pose are very elegant. smile

Re: The Taproom

Indeed, odd numbers for the new figures: MS530 "Celebrian" and MS532 "Durin VI". Have booked references 520-529 for the next serie-M? Will it appear so fast? In the month of August? Or is the new serie-MX ?......roll
¿And the reference 531 was "reserved "?..... Too many questions ..... a very cold beer, please ......smile

I've also only just noticed that the total production run of each new MS figure has now dropped to 150.

Re: The Taproom

Well, I've used various types of uhm, green stuff, and while I've never used kneadite, the GW green stuff is the best I've come across. That's the annoying thing about a lot of GW accessories. They are expensive, you find yourself supporting the other crap they pull, but the thing itself is pretty good.

Be warned, however, that Vallejo spray paint eats into green stuff of most varieties. The Citadel spray paint does not.

And, in other news, the realtor/estate agent/whatever bloke left about an hour ago, and we now have a sign on our lawn saying FOR SALE.

Of course there's still a bunch of small tasks to do, not least of which involves scrubbing excess tile grout off the bathroom floor and hacking up paint chips, but still...
