Re: The Taproom

I can't even tell the lady dwarves from the gents! Perhaps they should all wear name tags, or the ladies could wear pink hoods or something - it would prevent a lot of potential embarrassment.

Re: The Taproom

lol lol lol
Master Barliman, I am not sure about Bree people, but I thought dwarven ladys have no beards at all. So it is not as difficult to distinguish them. Unfortunately we will not have the cance to prove it as these days we will rarely see a dwarf lady outside the few dwarven settlements - and the men keep them like treasures.
I find it much harder to distinguish ladys an lords of the Tree-people, you know, Ents. What could you tell us, Master Tree,  about that?

I am also interested in the question, if the new MX vignettes will all be released once or if there will be several vignettes for a payable price released one by one.

Re: The Taproom

Ah, my dear Master Estel, you clearly don't know your Tolkien! Notes published in vol.11 of the 'History of Middle-earth' categorically state that the Dwarven ladies have beards like their menfolk. Why else do you think I'd have difficulty telling them apart?

Re: The Taproom

Priming problems??

Well I had no such problems with my 2 Trolls (the first 2 guys made) , so it seems to be a problem of the later primer used. But thanks for using your influence, master Elf and master Tree. The figure sculpts are great, the priming idea also. Now after the priming problem is going to be solved, ther must be some solution for that marketing problem.
Why the hell is it no possible to sell more of the nice little figures if the product is so great?
Maybe the Elf and the Tree must use their influence too, so that Aule will talk to Eru himself?

Oh I must have overread this, ladys with beards?? Maybe Tolkien has smoked too heavy tobacco, when writing this.  big_smile
I suggest, he was not sure about that (or better, I hope so!!)

Huoommmm ... I think The Man solved this problem wisely ... rhuooommm ... the only female Dwarf we've seen so far is Dis, Thrain's daughter (M161) ... rhuoommm ... and she's wearing a kind of scarf around her chin .... huoommm ...hom

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmm ... Master Estel, as for your query about that MX vignette ... huomm ... you mind the singular, please ... huoomm ... though that vignette will consist of several smaller vignettes, depicting different scenes, so to say ... rhuoommhom ... this is why it might be compared a bit with the old 'Prancing Pony' series ... but this MX is not meant as a series of releases of those smaller vignettes ... rhuoomm ... it's meant to be one piece once it's finished ... hom ... so we'll see ... being not too hasty about this ... huooooommmhom

What stage of the Unexpected Party will actually be depicted? - Or am I being hasty in asking?

Re: The Taproom

Huoommmrhuoomm ... not at all, Master Barliman ... huom ... well, yes ... rhuoomm ... that's the point ... huommhom ... it's difficult, as there are at least three sceneries to cope with ... huom ... let me try to explain ... huoommm ... first there was that Gandalf and the Hobbit ... huoomm ... yes, Bilbo that was ... rhuoommm ... you know ... hom ... poor Bilbo was a bit puzzled about how to provide food and drink to all those Dwarves who unexpectedly met at his place ... rhuoomm ... and he didn't know why ... huoomm ... so all he could do is to serve them well ... huom ... so he did ... huoommhom
hom ... in between that Gandalf was discussing with that Thurin-called Dwarf some matters ... rhuoom ... smoking their pipes ... huoommm ... then after having nearly everything eaten up ...
there's the music ... huomm ... all those instruments them Dwarves brought along ... rhuoomm ..
and those songs ... rhuoomm ...
... alas ... Master Barliman, you might guess how difficult it is to put all this into one scene ... rhuoommm ... difficult it is indeed ... but I can rely upon someone who will make this possible and have it to become real ... rhuoooommmmmm hom ... it's not me, the tree .... huommm ...
that's all I can say about it at the moment ... rhuoommhom

Re: The Taproom

Yes, very complicated. So I'm guessing that the entire set will end up sort of 'flowing' through the different aspects of the Party, from the opening of the door on (say) the left, through the smoking and planning in the centre, to the music-playing and singing on the right. Rather like the continuous flow of frames in a comic-book, really. Or something like that. Or not...

Re: The Taproom

I was actually wondering if we'd see the dwarves playing their instruments, harps and all, since, in the first pic you show us they are eating... so I had guessed there would be no music playing... but now that's a very good news!

Re: The Taproom

Huoommmm ... Master Gildor, what you couldn't see in the picture you mentioned is that Bifur has a little bag over his shoulder in which the top of a clarinette is poking out ... rhuoomm ...
huom .... well, Master Barliman,  huom ... your idea about the Hobbit opening his door does not match the idea which is intended, as it would just show the beginning of that meeting ... rhuoomm...
it's not meant to be what you call a "continuous flow of frames in a comic book" ... hom ...

Good heavens, I wish Nob was as helpful. Perhaps you should have his job and he could try a bit of tree-shepherding.

Re: The Taproom

Just interrupting your dialog Master Barli and Master Theobald . . .
There will be an orc, riding on a mighty, charging wolf, Master Tolkien called him "Warg". Such orc has to grasp very well.
AND: also holds a standart . . . ?! How does it work. What is the reason, that a warg-rider should hold a standart?
Doesn´t makes sense at all to me . . .
Warg riders are hunters, aren´t they . . .?
Nevertheless, voting comes into vogue again . . .

Re: The Taproom

warg-riders are usually forming raiding parties indeed.... Though I can imagine an orc firmly grasping a warg with his legs , letting him carrying a standard... this is out of place because standar-bearers are for armies, organised armies.... And I don't remember reading anywhere that warg riders were considered a "cavalry" in the mordor armies... though mounted it can't be considered a "cavalry"... but well, there are those wargamers around that need to have every "army corpse" represented on each side and I suppose an "orc army" on a battlefield would somehow require a cavalary for gaming rules... and the standard bearer being the focus point of the "faction".... still, it fits for wargaming purposes... it doesn't if you want to remain true to the texts...

I think there were warg riders on the pelennor fields but not considered cavalry here neither, they were some striking and fast force nothing more... as for "Gothmog riding his abomination-of-a-warg" a la Peter Jackson smile no comment indeed

Well my idea was that it was not some great standard like seen on some of the standard bearers released in other ranges, more like a pennant - see my entry from the GF suggestion board below.....

WOLF-RIDER STANDARD

Didn't someone want a mounted wolf-rider? As with Barli, memory of some ideas has faded so how about a wolf-rider with standard.

I envisage a pennant type standard streaming in the wind as opposed to what we normally get, to keep in line with the mobility aspect and what the wolf can carry on its back.

Perhaps the goblin/orc can be holding the pennant aloft and slightly looking back to encourage his fellow riders to speed up, or even be holding the pennant close to himself and sitting in a fairly upright position. The wolf would be running at a fast pace and its pose would reflect this.

I would love to see the orc with a helm of some kind.

I suppose I could push my luck and ask for a spare arm to give the option of an alternative weapon.

The idea was I guess to let CT design it based on that description and to have the standard looking more like a glorified spear which could signify a leader of a troop of scouts, or one of the goblin vanguard at The Battle of the Five Armies. Warg or Wolf, I guess it depends on what book, Wolf-riders are described in the Hobbit (though I am sure it may make a mention of Wargs in there somewhere), and I did ask for a spare arm (wishful thinking roll) so that it could be adapted.

This adaption makes more sense to me, David.
But there are already two of them in our beloved mithril range.
Nevertheless, I don´t want to offend you, not at all- (no reason to mention this).
