Re: The Taproom

Hey, no offence taken smile - I suggested it because I couldn't think of anything else at the time and someone had been asking about wolf-riders on the general forum I think.

I would like to see what CT does with it if it does win though, although there is another suggestion that would be of more practical use to my plans if it won big_smile Certainly a 'normal' standard would be a ridiculous sight on a figure such as this.

I do wonder if as part of the Helms Deep range there are any furry creatures planned neutral Alas we shall have to wait and see.

Re: The Taproom

Wargs are something different to the war-wolves orcs ride.
Wargs are something different to the war-wolves orcs ride.

Repeat after me, ad infinitum, ad nauseum :p

There are three unnatural wolf creatures floating around the legendarium, as far as I can tell:

- the war wolves, which are big tamed wolves that mountain orcs ride
- the Wargs which are unnatural wolf spirits which disappear when you shoot them (the Fellowship at Hollin)
- Werewolves, which are something else entirely.

Re: The Taproom

The idea that the Orcs ride Wargs is something else that we have the movies to blame for - if not for the original error, then for disseminating the notion to the unwashed...

Re: The Taproom

well spoken, Master Gavin,

werewolves are nothing else but spirits, entrapped in bodies of large wolves (German source: Ardapedia: http://ardapedia.herr-der-ringe-film.de … hp/Werwolf)

So was Carcharoth, a giant wolf and also a werewolf. Seems, that Tolkien did not make such a strict differentiation between the three wolflike creatures.

Beside that quite interesting debate, I personally have nothing against Orcs riding giant wolves and bearing standards. This would surely not harm the spirit of Tolkiens world, But I wished, we could see such figures as normal 'M' and not as expensive GF-figures.

Re: The Taproom

Weren't there wolf-riders at the Battle of the Five Armies that attacked as part of a co-ordinated assault (not just randomly) by the dark minions? Perhaps my memory fails me and I don't have time right now to research it.

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm .... there's nothing much on here at the moment, is it? ... rhuoomm ... I heard that many might be on that what's called holly-days ... huommm ... I always thought this would refer to that time of a year shortly after the winter solstice ... rhuooommm ... so here I must be wrong, meseems .... huoommm ... I just do hope it won't be hollow-days ... hom ... anyway, Master Barliman, would you please fill one of your nice and handy bowls with some clear-clean-non-sparkeling-watery-liquid for me? ... huommm ... ?
Nay, before you start asking for them coiny things you like to have in return you better might have a look at the doormats ... rhuoomm ... thoroughly cleaned by now ... any warg-rider on foot trying to pass Bree and who then finds your premises within the town will from now on bow on your threshold ... rhuoommm ... see, that's the best pose to give him a kick ... huoommm ... this is all I do know about doormats ... huomm ...

Re: The Taproom

Ah, yes, the wargskin rugs. I'd been missing them for a few days - had to wipe my boots on Nob instead. But thank'ee muchly for getting them cleaned and brushed up again. I hope they didn't bite you this time.

As for nowt happening here, there's nowt happening on the Fellowship site either, I notice. What is Miachael playing at this time? I hope he's not ill, and that he merely forget he was going to be away when he set the closing date for the voting. As it is, it appears to have given several tardy ne'er-do-wells an opportunity to come in with some (very) late votes - or perhaps they think this is the second round of voting? Or even next month's vote...?

Huoooommmm ... hom ... as there's a lack of new facts and rumours I might tell you that I just had a look at Gandalf, Thorin and Balin ... rhuooommmm ... I'm sure they'll become excellent figures ... hom

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... Master Rita.de, as I don't know your mother, I cannot tell you what she might have had in her mind yesterday ... rhuoommm ...
huom ... but as it has become somewhat quiet around here I thought of providing some facts and news ... rhuomm ... no rumours ... alas, that was just a jest ... homm ...
by now the second section of the vignette has nearly been sculpted ... huommm ... though the figures are not quite complete and will need a little cleaning ... rhuoomm ... that scene is about Gandalf(seated) puffing on his pipe and Thorin(seated) perusing the famous map while Balin(standing) looks on .... rhuommm ... maybe it's better to hang another picture in the Mathom House ... as sometimes words cannot tell everything ... rhuooohuommm ... though it means some work has to do be done by me .... huooommm where's that hammer and the nails .... hoooomm
why is it always me who has to haste everything ... lazy lads around here ... huom ...

It's because you're so good at everything, Master Tree - and you don't need a ladder to reach the picture rail.

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... hom ... first of all, Master Barliman, I have to tell you that it's not me who's good at everything ... rhuoommm ... not at all ... and to be honest, I do not want to be ... rhuoomm ...
being good at everything would also mean that life is boring, wouldn't it? .... huoomm ... back to terms, Master Barliman ... hom ... there's no picture rail within your premises ... it's elsewhere ...
rhuoommmmmm ... didn't I mention the Mathom House? ... huommm ... I thought I did ... huom.
what do you think why I'm absent here so often ... rhuoommm ... being a caretaker in two houses sometimes keeps you busy ... homhuom ... that's why some people call me the hasty Ent ... rhuoommm ...

And in other news, I distracted myself in the last few days of serious renovations by helping out on this:

I didn't actually write it, just took some photos, edited some of the text and fiddled with the layout, but if you have a membership, do vote for it big_smile

Re: The Taproom

Well, at last began the second round of voting on the suggestion of July!.

It has also begun a period to suggestions of August. I have contributed with a small tribute to the race of our favorite tree ....wink

Re: The Taproom

He may be YOUR favourite tree, but have you seen the mess his roots, er, feet make on the floor here?

But it's about time the poll got moving again, althoiugh at the moment I'm not sure what to suggest next, and will have to give it a little more thought. I'm thinking maybe Gondor, but may change my mind yet...

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmmmrhuoommmmhom ... and who is it who always cleans them doormats regularly, Master Barliman? ... huoommm ... is it you? ... rhuoomm ... is it Nob? ... all your customers avoid swiping their dirty booty things on them wargskins, except me and my roots ... rhuoommm ... so the mess on the floor of your premises cannot be caused by me ... rhuommm  ... and besides I'm not a favourite tree, Master Erchamion ... rhuoomm ... remember that some time ago I was misused here as being a Christmas tree having to be silent for about two weeks ... huoomhom ... anyway, thank you Master Erchamion, it honours me tree ...huoom

Not really. I've kind of used minis with either MERP or the CODA rules. I do paint GW stuff, when said GW does doesn't  suck. And sometimes when it does, I convert it :p

However, the good news is, I now have a picture by my name on the TLA website, so that's a victory of sorts. heh.

Re: The Taproom

Rhuoommm ... I witnessed that our Elf has provided them news elsewhere around here ... huoommm ... shouldn't it be the 'Pony' where facts and rumours have to be provided? ... huomm ... isn't is that why our 'Pony' is less frequented ... so many other threads about many other matters ... rhuoommm ... alas ... I will concentrate on that Númenorian army again ... hom

Yes, there are a lot of rooms nere now, and people find some of them easier than others.

I wonder how much this group of vertically challenged gentlemen (er, gentledwarves...) will be selling for?

Re: The Taproom

well I posted it on the Tharbad topic as it is not a rumor but a fact and with the sale details smile and because there was already a thread for these dwarves in this place.... Since Tharbad is dedicated for sales on ebay... I thought it had its place there smile

I always considered the Pony as a meeting place for discussing , roleplaying, having fun... playing with the wargskins and annoying Nob with our demands but with the current MMP architecture it would be sad to have a single huge thread for all and everything smile
I admit I had not seen the information Theobald provided actually sad shame on me... in order for the majority to see it I posted in with colors in a sales section so that we are sure it is viewable... (maybe TOO viewable?)

Huoommm ... no harm taken, Master Gildor, not at all and no shame on you, please ... rhuoom...
today I was just too busy fixing shields and arms and weapons to them Númenorian army that started to attack me two days ago ... rhuoommm ... I think I can cope with that ... huoommm ...
I might provide pics of these in the Mathom House once I have the time .... rhuooommm ... You know 116 Númenorians are quite a lot ... huoomm ...

damnit! 116 numenoreans!
I can't wait to see this army!

(btw shame on me too... I am focused on Andrea Figurines lately, not mithril... I really love their warlord Saga 54mm, well some of them, not all) I've always prefered 54mm...
