Some paintwork from Maenas

Hi there!
I have found some old (2005) pictures that I made for the old mmp database, so I will post them here so all of you can see them again wink They still got the required 300x400 size but are close up enough...

Re: Some paintwork from Maenas

The same for me, Master Maenas. I also like the elven harpist girl. But you should put an eye on the strings . . . wink
Nice to post your pics here.

Yes, some very nice work, but the harpist does appear to have had an accident yikes - perhaps she had too many cups of Dorwinion wine and got a bit carried away when 'plucking!' big_smile

Re: Some paintwork from Maenas

That broken harp string is genius, whether intentional or not.

Chris Tubb's characters are all very narrative. It's not just "this is Bob the Elf sitting here" its "Bob the Elf lost in his thoughts." There's always some narrative component to the illustrated character.

And the harpist character brings that out so well.

I can only agree to your comment about Chris's narrative in sculpting. Just be patient to await them 13 Dwarves ... it's a chapter of a book being sculpted.
Maenas, the broken harp-strig is fitting the face of the Elven-lady well. Just a bit annoyed she seems to be.

I agree mister Gavin! but if I may add...

Bob is not an elf but a hobbit of Bree , hehehe

Re: Some paintwork from Maenas

I like the color of the dwarf and how to paint eyes smile

And don´t worry about the harp. I saw Harpo Marx playing music in much worse shape harps. lol

Thank you!!
Ther harp strings were an experiment I made... In fact they are strings of glue, and it was a bit difficult doing it, some of the strings got broken the following years ;( but well an experiment is that he he he.

Re: Some paintwork from Maenas

i think that Hair sprayed with matt varnish would have been perfect for strings smile
or nylon strings in case

Re: Some paintwork from Maenas

There are also those extremely thin threads within telephone wires (or: flex). Someone suggested to use them even for arrow-shafts in connection with the "Death of Boromir"-vignette, as far as I remember (wasn't it Chris himself?). Those might also be used to provide bow strings and as they're of metal, they can be assembled more easily than hair or nylon, I think.
