Re: The Taproom

Well people... this is it! we have reached it!

This is the 100th page of the Pony! a great achievement since the beginning!
I hope I'll have some "surprises" before the 101st page is reached ... but that does not depend on me...

Re: The Taproom

A question .... Master Theobald, regarding your question on the GF forum on plans for a new bonus figure .... Has anyone noticed that the numbering of the figures has reserved the number 531? It is possible that this is the new bonus figure who promised one day Michael .....roll

Re: The Taproom

isn't 531 meant for the Witch King on the Pelennor fields which has not yet been revealed but was before Durin VI in the GF suggestion order?

or it could be for the forthcoming MX too...   but anyway, having Celebrian and Durin VI now means there is a "missing" suggestion yet to be released before carrying on with the referencing

It's true. I did not realize it could be the Witch King. That "hole" seems destined to him ...roll

Re: The Taproom

Rhuooommmmhom ... I just received the two new GF-figures ... huomm ... excellent quality again ... hom ... Mistress Celebrian appearing with a very noble dress and in a noble pose ... as we could guess from the picture that already was provided ... rhuoommm ... then Durin VI ... a very nice new helmet-design and an interesting new shield design depicting a falling dragon ... huommm ... very dynamic that pose .... hommmmmmm ... the proportions of Durin meet those of the forgotten Dwarven army perfectly (I just compared) ... rhuoommm ... year 2009 ... the year of Dwarves ... smile

Re: The Taproom

well now is the question that everybody -I suppose- would like to ask...

what about the Primer? for these two GF figs?

(on a side note, I received news that the Hobbit movie scenario should be ready in the forthcoming weeks, Ian McKellen will be Gandalf again, nothing is said about who will play Bilbo... movies are scheduled for releases in December 2011 for first movie, and December 2012 for second movie...
(the MX vignette may be a year too early smile but nevermind )

Re: The Taproom

Huoommmm ... as for the primer ... it is very good by now ... no details being smeared ... good-old quality I'd like to say .... so some complaints might have reached them company ... huoom..

about that side note of yours, Master Gildor ... that MX was planned to be available before the first announcements about that 'Hobbit-movies' (a thrilogy, isn't it?). I knew of that, so I tried to be faster .... rhuoommm ... before that those d*****d GW people cover everything with their poor miniatures ... I tried to do it before ... that rhouooommm ...  then there's slight difference you might mind ... rhuoommm ... what I'm trying to do is to keep an interest and awe in Christ's sculptings ... rhoummmhuommm ... as it's worth it ..... rhuooommm ... end

Re: The Taproom

Changing the subject ...smile  These days I've been rereading the history of Arvedui. And in relation to the proposal made by the Master Gildor to contribute ideas to forward it to The Man, I think it's interesting that Arvedui had a white gem held by a silver mesh on his head. The famous "Elendirmir", symbol of the kings of Arnor, Arthedain and Captains of Rangers ... The crown was used in Gondor.

Whenever the Master Gildor, welcome it ... wink

Re: The Taproom

I just checked something... it is said that the Elendilmir was worn by 40 heads before Aragorn... (in truth 38 since Valandil)
but if that is so.... between Valandil and Aragorn there is only 38 people, including Aranarth, son of Arvedui... (if the Elendilmir was lost with Arvedui... how could his son have worn it? or maybe he left it before taking the ship that doomed him, that's a possibility

Re: The Taproom

It is the safest. The Annúminas´s Scepter and  Barahir´s Ring (the other symbols of the ancient Kingdom of Arnor and inherited Arthedain) were recovered and not lost (as opposed to palantiri). The Elendilmir be saved by the scepter and ring. This is an assumption, of course ....wink

Perhaps it would be interesting Arvedui take all these symbols of the North? Or would overburden the figure? roll

Re: The Taproom

well the figurine has to remain "kingly" I suppose he was not alone when escaping.... others were there to carry his affairs too...If he was a fighting king in retreat, there are people in charge for protocol and for the "jewels of the crown".

Carrying a palantir and the elendilmir could be sufficient I think.

(By  the way, it was a copy of the original Elendilmir, worn and lost by Isildur at the Gladden Fields... The original one was retrieved by Aragorn Elessar when he ordered Orthanc to be searched, in the fourth age, and among Saruman's hoards, there was the original and true Elendilmir...)

Re: The Taproom

Hello all, after a long absence (I was clearing the area about the Pony of swarthy-men, Barli, in an attempt to reduce my bar tab) I am back.

Congrats Gavin on your prospects for citizenship in your new land to the north. Is it Forochel bay, did you say?

And Congrats to Gildor on reaching 100 pages in the Pony taproom, my favorite place to repose with an ale and a smoke.

Re: The Taproom

A propos nothing in particular, I'm having a very peculiar time with my emails at the moment - I keep getting notified of new posts in the Pony about two days after they're posted. Maybe it's just an echo because the place has been a bit empty lately, or maybe my server has decided to join me in the land of the less than entirely sane.

By the way, I've finally come up with a suggestion for this month's GF figure, for those of you who haven't taken a look lately: Hurin the Tall, Warden of the Keys. I don't think he's been suggested before, and certainly not recently.

Re: The Taproom

*mutters something about Australians and their ancestry*

*leaves some silver coins on the table*

*climbs behind the bar and makes tea anyway*

Almost finished painting my first 8 Time Machine Gondorians (the ones I bought in...2006!). This should have been done about a month ago. Going to start the next 8 in a day or two. Alas, I had issues with the Games Workshop black undercoat (don't spray the stuff outside in a Quebec summer), so the undercoat wasn't great and it didn't do the figures any favours at all. Might just strip them later and try again.

But, its some small progress.

Re: The Taproom

As I think I've said before, I don't undercoat at all, so I don't have such problems. But then, I still chiefly use enamels, which don't seem to be as dependent on an initial undercoat as acrylics. Ah yes, old-fashioned, that's me.

And what's with these buttons in this 'money' you've left on the bar, Master Gavin?

Re: The Taproom

Mmnn! i have had no problem with the black, but prefer to use grey or white car primer from a 'chain' store (Halfords Barli) as it dries quick.

I find a lighter undercoat for all scale of figures is best as you can use dark washes to bring out details.
