*groan*
Welcome back Original Aragorn. Too bad TLA died on us!
And I sincerely apologise for the poor standards of humour here
*glowers around the Pony, muttering darkly*
As for the other topic that popped up, I'll say this: the Helm's Deep M series may be expensive and, indeed, overpriced. They are, however, nice looking figures. Compare and contrast to the GW command sets, which are overpriced and ugly. Also sort of half assed.
Oh and I put my MW dwarves up on Ebay and they were purchased 8 hours later. I feel like I should have charged more, but that's silly. I only would have charged more had the buyer been He Who Shall Not Be Named.
:p

Good on you Gavin!
You are right with the Helm's Deep series. They might be expensive, but compared to a lot of other things they are suddenly not expensive at all and a lot nicer looking then the GW crapp anyday!

Well, I have to agree that much of the GW stuff is crap, but (sorry to those of you who disagree), not all of it is. Indeed, some of their genuinely novie-based figures are very nice indeed. Some of the later figures that they've invented, however, are not so nice at all. It's that stuff that's about on a par with what Bob shovels out of the stable every morning.
But it is a bit ironic that GW stuff is now cheaper than the latest Mithril releases. Who's have thought we'd ever see such a day?
Offline
Indeed.
I only buy GW movie based stuff, and preferably in metal. I try to avoid purchasing figures by that certain sculptor. However, I recently bought some of their wood elves for something (I was horribly and compulsively inspired by an article on HDR Tabletop!), and only serious conversions will save them from the curse of vile ugliness.
The recent War of the Ring releases haven't been half bad - either they've been movie figure releases or they put some effort into them. But the new Mordor releases are pretty silly - including the odd conversion based "Black Guard" guys. I am all for reusing elements of older figures, but the Black Guard seem to use elements from their Isengard range (as well as being crude and ugly looking). The result is...entirely suboptimal.
Might pick up the "Easterling" and Harad command set sometime in the new year on Ebay. If they are suitably cheap. The rest...well, the rest are easy to ignore.

I think GW are mixed. Some are hideous, such as Dol Amroth line and most of their elf lines. Others are extremely nice. The King Elessar models are lovely, as are many of the dwarfs, etc. I agree generally that the movie-based ones are pretty good.
I actually think some GW models tend to be more "realistic" (if I may!) than certain Mithril figures - though not in all cases.
But what I like about Mithril is that they are imbued (in my opinion) with so much flavor, charm and character. They aren't Peter Jackson cookie cutter figures, but have their own odd charm and strong personality.
Long winded way of saying - I enjoy both lines. But I intend to focus more on Mithril in the near future.

Huoommmm ... rhuoomm ... so it's us, Master Protozeus, and the Man in the Dark, sitting at this table together for the first time ... rhuoommm ... see, that once again there's some noise in the tabroom caused by people quarreling about them GW stuff ... rhuoommm ... I do not understand all that and it has become a bit noisy ... let's stay here a while in the dark next to that ranger ...

Weird crowd over there, indeed, and a weird day, as well. Cheers, Masters Ent and Ranger!

Huoommmmm...hoomrhuom ... as for another matter ... I've been contemplating about another Christmas riddle for a while as autumn is here ... rhuom ... so is there any interest? ... last year I thought the 2008 riddle was the last one as I gave my last three interesting metal things away ... rhuoooommmhom ... but well, times they're a-changing ... I do not want to have this being discussed here in the tabroom excessively, I'm just asking, because if there's any lack of interest I could save some time thinking about more riddles ... huoomm ...

Well, as far as I am concerned I have to say, that I am deeply interested in a further christmas riddle, Master Tree ! Very deeply! I remember I have missed a price very shortly, didn´t I ?!
Actually for that reason you mentioned above I am thinking about starting similar myself . . .
But I think you are more professional concerning Tolkien knowledge as I am.
That would be better for everyone.

I also have a very high interest, though perhaps a severe lack of solving capability ...

Master Ent, the riddles are great, even if I don't partisipate because of having a lack of knowlge regarding Master Tolkien. But there is always something new to learn. I always say, a day you haven't learned something new is a lost day!
I love the minis, but that's more or less it.
Bring it on Master Ent, I do my best to take part in it! If I win and the price are the dwarfes, I know someone who would love to take them of my hands....

Riddles are good.

What is Tolkien's world without riddles?

I agree, I love riddles too... but I suggest that you post in advance to tell us "when" the riddle will be asked... so that players do not answer too late if they can't login.... not knowing there was a riddle to solve.
I like the idea

Huoommmm ... let me think a moment .... rhuoommm ... so there're six being(s) interested so far ... huomm ... some others have not read this ... rhuoommm ... hom ... so, twelve or thirteen altogether ... hom ... that's nice company .... huommm
Right, Master Gildor, I very much appreciate your criticism as I also was aware of that problem and tried to cope with it last year ... huoomm ... more or less successfully ....
huoommm ... but, as I said before, I don't dare to have all this discussed in The Pony's tabroom ... rhuoommm ... Master Barliman might be annoyed about all this fuss about riddles ... rhuoommm ... last year I ended up here as a Christmas tree, if you remember ... a hard time that was, believe me ....
Rhuoommmhoommmm ... hom ... er, to cut it short, I tell you that the Christmas riddle again will be placed in The Mathom House of Michel Delving ... I'll try to find another room for that ... rhuoommm ... ahhh, sorry ... forgot to thank you fellers for supporting a crazy idea ... though still there's no idea what it will be about ... rhuoommm ... there's time - I'll haste over to that House of Delving's Michael ... or was it Michel Diving? ... anyway ... some spidery webs have to be gotten rid of ... rhuoommm ... language, where's language? ....

Well I don't mind being counted in to make up the numbers (but nothing so vulgar as One Gross as did a certain Mr Baggins if you please), but with small hope of winning

very queer around these parts. Nobody speaks a word..

I hope that's because they're too busy drinking. Or maybe they're massaging their brains ready for the riddle-game?

I think that is just collective recovering after another one unexpected party
