mmhh in a totally different topic... I'd need some advice from painters who use aerographs?
I'm tempted to begin working with aero, as Prince August (France) released their own brand of aerograph painters (including Prince August compressors oO)  and I was wondering if someone had examples of mithril figurines painted with aero?

Do you mean an airbrush Gildor? If so I use one for larger figures (much bigger than Mithril), but for figures the size of Mithril I would suggest that you try chalk pastels as with practice you can achieve some very subtle effects that almost look airbrushed. There are of course some drawbacks but at Mithril scale you may find you can save yourself money.

An airbrush would be useful for scenic items where large areas need covering with the option of adding more precise details. From personal experience I have found it is better to have a brush that allows the user to control air and paint flow, but these are generally more expensive.

I used to use Aztec, but now have Iwata (spares are also expensive sad)

Hope that helps a bit big_smile

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

ah yes sorry english word is airbrush yess

well Prince august new airbrushes are "two actions" (you press to impulse air and then you pull to inject paint, these are indeed expensive,  100euros without compressor, but there is an offer for a little metal case with portable mini compressor (noisy but small and I tested it it is fine)  and all the airbrush material for a total of 159€... I give you the link

http://www.prince-august.net/details.php?pid=1485

the full airbrush kit with big compressor is here : http://www.prince-august.net/details.php?pid=1484

Now I would use airbrush for ... base paint application (primer or basic colors before applying dry brushing, or painting details, or "glacis")  or else for the cloth folds using airbrush when there is no sculpted texture like furs

but this is an investment and though I like the feeling I need to have some feedback before about what's possible for miniatures at this scale... Some people are expert at it but I lack examples sad

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

I tried an airbrush many years ago, but never took to it. The main drawback to me was the inordinate amount of time it took to clean the wretched thing!

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

RRRrrruuuûuuoommm ... right you are, Master Barliman ... cleaning an airbrush well enough, not to challenge you to buy a second one might come close to painting or spray, let's say, 5 Mithrils ... if done properly ... except cleaning the several things containing the different colours which might take some more time ... huoomm ... in case you use an "airbrush" you should be sure about the power of its engine ... compressor, that is ... you'll have to have a room for spraying as well ... huoomm ... the price of a good compressor might extend the price for a good airbrush threefold ... huomm ... that's all I know ... rhuoomm ...

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

At that price it seems reasonable and it sounds like a double action airbrush. If your gut feeling is that it is a worthwhile investment then perhaps you should take a chance and go for it. Have you done  a Google search for the model to see if others have given reviews (but do take them in context with the type and price - don't expect a Rolls Royce performance when you pay the price of a small car wink ).

Be aware that some compressors if they do not have an air reservoir can be a bit tempermental in terms of a consistent flow of air (hence I hate cans of compressed air big_smile). Sometimes small compressors can also move about (not an issue, but if you have a cat, at that size it may think it is a rat lol).

I'm far from an expert in airbrush use, but as I said before at Mithril scale pastels can give great results on clothing.

I think airbrush users fall into two camps, those that love them and those that hate them big_smile.

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

well this model of airbrush by Prince August hit the market later in january, there is not a lot of feedback yet the product is too new..
but this saturday I went to my retailer who was organising a "training session" for me and some others for this airbrush.. fact is, I was alone so I had the leisure to test This airbrush for the whole morning.... as I have never done airbrushing before it was a bit hard, even if there was someone to explain me the basics.... Still this airbrush seems fine and I imagine some things that could be handfully done on mithril thanks to that... I will wait to see in a month or two as the noise of the compressor and its quality altogether with its price will play a lot in the balance...

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

AN AIRBRUSH !!????

Well, if there is anybody who is interested in my experiences . . .
I used an airbrush during university as a special subject. As for colouring achitectural show-plans!
It is very expensive and very intensive putting into care, as master Tree pointed out. And you defenetly need a compressor!
Nothing else like air-tubes or garbage like that . . .
I use it to undercoat my unstripped miniatures. But I left this way. Too complex for this case, though the results are brilliant.

For my oppinion totally disable for painting 32mm scale miniatures!
Can´t imagine to have a nearly considerable result!
But if you like Gildor, use it,  and try to paint 32mm figures with an airbrush.

But don´t forget to show them here . . .

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

...honestly ... I would never use an air brush for painting the figure of 32 mm... I have much experience with using an air brush. and I used it for many years to work on models of World War II. Mainly in the scale 1/32... But never for small parts. I think the effect will be counterproductive. I used the airbrushes from a U.S. company "Badger... ( http://www.badgerairbrush.com/ ) and I was more than satisfied...

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

well, considering all your feedback I think I'll pass on this and avoid versing into airbrushing.... too costly and mithril figurines are expensive enough like that!!!!!

actually my wife just informed me I finally received the Sauron figurine today , with the "1" engraved under the base....

there is a mystery though :  the parcel was sent on Feb 9th... registered.  though according to Mithril it was sent before HD2 which I received late in January...
Either they forgot to send it at all.... and did it last thursday... or they sent it again and thus re engraved a figurine with a "1" making a second "so called" first casting... which thus means it clearly has no meaning at all...

Re: THE TAPROOM 2

It's impossible to know, but be optimistic — look on the positive side and treat it as the first casting. It very well could be! It might have been laying round in some sorting office ever since then. I just got an eBay purchase from the US that was air-mailed on 2 January (and is postmarked as such), so such things can happen.

Where Nob gets to is always a mystery. I usually find him in a cupboard in the kitchen, eating his way through the contents.

Sometimes I really wonder about comments to other people´s work-
work with passion, poetry and a really toilsome train of thought, like Master Thingol´s example . . .
