Re: The Taproom

Yes, Master Barli, I do. Fine, that I am not the only one. Do you have an idea about this?

Re: The Taproom

Perhaps it's with the intention of better matching them to the generally accepted standard 28mm wargame scale? Maybe the hope is that they'll sell more that way. I shall have to ask The Man.

Re: The Taproom

That could make sense. I bought couple of month ago 28mm zombie-wolves. Too large ! The simple fact.
So mithril moves the miniatures a little bit to 30mm  . . .

Re: The Taproom

Ah, the zombie wolves would be from Gamezone, I imagine? Nice figures though, aren't they? I just bought a couple of their Vampire Mournful Knights - very impressive bits of sculpting.

Re: The Taproom

Exactly, right you are , Master Barli ! Very impressive indeed, I would say. I like the wolves very much !
There are also those "wild-pics" if you neglec the strange orcs.
I curiously expect what The Man will say . . .

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... mine are not smaller at all ... huom ... I hope you didn't order some dwarves, Master Barliman .... rhuoomm ... I think some of the MERP-release figures way back in 2007 didn't fit the size ... huooommmm ...
Hom ... today I had the time to unblister some of those tiny metal things .... GRUOOOOMMMM ... horror!
I'm absolutely displeased with that horrible, once slimy, stuff that covers most parts of the surface of these nice figures ... rhuoomhuomhom ... incredible that is ... it even hurts me!!! ... rhuoomm
Please, Master Barliman, would you immediately give me a very large bowl of your best scrumpy, please? .... huoommm ... yes, scrumpy, I said, no clear clean water, I mean the one with all those rat tails and furballs, yes, even mauve umbrellas if you like .... huom ... then maybe Nob could sing a song to destroy the rest of my senses ... grrrrrruooom

Re: The Taproom

I'm sure that could be arranged.

I think the relative size of the new M figures depends on what you compare them to. They're the same size as the Corsairs (I hadn't noticed they were the same size), but considerably smaller than the Mw347 figures. And MS423 is a veritable giant alongside them! But they're certainly 28mm rather than 32mm.

Re: The Taproom

I've noticed the scale issues: the original Helm's Deep figures are probably wandering closer to the 40mm scale than the traditional Mithril scale. Some of those guys look like giants compared to their other metal kin.

So, we are agreed? Primer goes away?

Fine by me.

I assume you mean 30mm? Either that or I've topped up your mug too many times.

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... thank you, Master Barliman, thank you indeed ... hom
As for the size of the figures I really cannot agree .... huoommm ... I just measured different sizes from top to toe ... huomm ... the new ones are of the same size as the corsairs, so here you're right ... huom ... the Mw347 figures also fit to 32mm (the only one who comes close to an upright pose is the Angrenost captain on foot, I believe) ... huommm ... MS423 is about 1 mm taller than 32mm meseems ... so he's not a "veritable giant" .... rhuoommm ... maybe you forgot that certain helmets might give a different impression of the size of a figure .... huommm so does the volume and pose of a figure ... rhuoommm ... no, I'm about sure that The Man still sticks to the good old size ... huuuoommm ... anything else wouldn't make much sense .... homm
all I can do is ask him about this .... rhuoomm ... I'm afraid you just wanted to start a rumour, Master Barliman .... the last time you did this is now a long time ago .... huomm ... it was about  proportions ... rhuom ... was it about Helm Hammerhand with his left arm being too short? ... huoommm ... I don't recall precisely ... and for sizes of those tiny measures, please believe me that it's hard for a tree to judge .... rhuoomm

Re: The Taproom

I can assure you, Master Tree, that the new Helm's Deep figures are distinctly smaller  when stood alongside MS423, or the Mw347 figures, even allowing for different poses, bent knees, helmets and all. I'm surprised you can't see it! But then, you've been imbibing some of my stronger, er, water as well, so perhaps that explains it.

The scale thing for Mithril bothers me less than the scale issues for That Other Company which are far more grievous.

Re: The Taproom

Huoommm ... Master Barliman, it might be a matter of perspective why I'm not aware of them tiny differences ... as, ahem, I do not really care ... rhuoomm ... looking at them tiny metal pieces from here simply 1 or 2 mm does not really care ... huoomm ... you're closer to the ground than me ... huoomm ... so you must be right, Master Barliman .... rhuoomm .... the other explanation could be that I swallowed the liquid you provided much too hastily ... rhuoomm

Yes, especially when palstic stuff is compared with precious lead figures yikes mad

I would not mind, if the primer goes away, as I am always painting my figures and make use of black primer on my figures. This is hard, when a grey primer is on the figures, as I did not want to obscure the details, the MAN has created.

I would like to have a primer on the GF-figures as these are mostly characters and need special care when painting them, so I do not need tp give them a black priming.

Gamezone do some nice mounted figures which look quite Rohan(ish) and the horses are very nice too. The full-armoured knights are a bit busy for me though. I too have those wolves.

Primer. As i haven't ordered the HD yet, though I may as well as the last Troll seems to be hiding, I can't comment, but I have always liked the primer as it made Mithril stand out, but if as appears to be the case we are now getting grey custard (does it taste like custard Barli?) then perhaps time for a rethink.

By the way, I have finally manged to post some images in the gallery.

Re: The Taproom

What Rohan(ish) figures are they, then? Are we talking about the same Gamezone? - they only seem to do heavily armoured Gothic jobs as far as cavalry are concerned. Or have I missed something?

Re: The Taproom

Huooommmm ... about primery matters I would like to state that I always liked those tiny little things to be primed ... huommm ... with the "good old" grey primer ... huom ... to me there were several reasons for that ..... first of all the figures do look better with that grey undercoat as long as they have to stand in the glass-cabinets awaiting painting ... rhuoommm ... that is because in the good old days of the old primer the details of the figures could be recognized better from a distance ... rhuoommm ... one day in the past I started to prime those unprimed releases, as there were the Mûmakil, some dragons and several vignettes ... rhuomm ... that's when you first become aware of the details before painting them ... huomm ... it took me quite a while to find the right colour and mixture how to do it ... rhuoommm ... if you don't believe me, just have a look at the "Dunlending chariot" ... huoommm ... huommm ... what I simply want to say is that we just don't need any paste on figures that we have to get rid of ... then again priming those figures ourselves in a way they could be painted ... rhuoommm ... that takes time, of course ... huoommm ... coiny things for that procedure will have to be spent ... on both sides, so to say ... so what's it for? ... rhuoommm ... as I'm not perfect in your way of thinking just allow me to pass on me thoughts .... huuuoooOOOoooommmm ....

Re: The Taproom

The problem,Master Tree, is that Mithril no longer seem capable of priming with the old nice stuff, but seem to use some sort of diluted plaster instead. If they can't do better than that then I think we'd be better off without any primer at all. I've just had to strip all the primer off the new M figures so that I can get back to the detail before I paint them. I could do without having to do that every time!

Having said that, I fail to understand why Mithril should be having such a problem with their primer. Just change supplier, guys - it isn't hard!

Re: The Taproom

I have posted a poll on the official board about this primer...

Please go and vote for this matter, it is no boycott it is no angry or anything but the more we are to vote the more the results and statistics will be significative!

Re: The Taproom

That´s great. I have just suggested something similar today to Estel in private (!) .
Let´s go there and vote . . .
I do need primer because I paint with oil colours. But I make it in a better way for myself on an unprimed miniature.
