so Bob is not a baby but Nob is? how odd indeed
Offline
You mean you hadn't noticed...?
Nob: small, lots of trouble, never does what he's supposed to... = child.
Bob: capable of dealing with horses, works hard, can hold his ale, and has sufficient intelligence to own a cat... = adult.

Broggha is a bit morbid for my taste.. but I'm sure I'm the exception, not the rule!

Huoommmm ... I cannot tell, Master OriginalAragorn ... about Broggha, I mean ... huomm ... so far I had no chance to have a close look at him, holding the figure in my hands ... rhuoomm ... maybe that'll be in time for Christmas if I'm lucky ... rhuoommm ... just have a look at the latest newsletter provided today ... huoommm ... all those hasty people ... anyway, I hope that this would only mean a very short delay ... as there are other delays that still keep me worrying ... rhuooommmhomhom ... some there are ... rhuoomm ... and I don't refer to MS-releases with this ... huooommmm ... it's the regular M-series ... rhuom ... but why worry ... huom?

Questions for my comrades:
I just got Smaug the Dragon Triumphant (Lovely!) and The Lord of the Nazgul (Charming!).
My questions:
1) Have you used drill & pins to hold the limbs in place, especially in places that have weight (such as the Fellbeasts feet attachment, Smaug's limbs, etc)?
2) Do you use any special kind of glue? I just have regular GW hobby glue (super glue).
Thanks!
George

the Lord of Nazgul parts are not very very heavy actually, I have used super glue, but no need of any drill in addition. Everything is perfectly balanced
as for Smaug Triumphant, since he is resting on his four legs he does not have problems either, BUT in order to be certain, I used, in addition to super glue, some of this two-component paste used by craftmen to fix and repair many things under pressure. (two component pastes that , when mixed, heatens, then becomes rapidly very very strong and hard as stone and resistant to pression) It is like Miliput but 10 times more resistant and also it dries ten times more rapidly (you have to sculpt quite fast in it before it dries!) you can then use files to smooth this hardened surface and make it continuous with metal.
I use this paste for fixing tails and wings of all my dragons, instead of miliput. The Vengence of Smaug though, on flight, needs some drilling between torso and tail, and wings and torso, as it is very badly balanced
Offline
That two-part paste sounds useful, Master Elf - what is it called?
Offline
I always pin big part such wings and so, but as Master Gildor said, is not indispensable. I recommend Gale Force Nine superglue, it's the stongest one I have ever tried.
Offline
about the paste I use, well, it has several names since several brands sell it... It is not a modelling tool, it is use for house works.
here is a link to such kind of product : http://www.diybathrepair.com/html/kit_mastic.html
when you have to fix things fast, and with quite some tensile strength (such as metallic wings) it really makes miracle!
(my "unbalanced" smaug triumphant NEVER broke with this paste, it bent... but in bent due to the metal of the figurine, never on the junction points with tails and wings. )
Besides you can drill it, file it, sculpt it (fast!) ... far better than any kind of miliput for crucial and dangerous fixations.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

mmmh, returning to the statement of Master Presto 247365: Yes! It seems that way.
A great conversion that is. And a wonderful paintjob also!
You should post this somewhere else here in the depths of the MMP !!!
Offline
I think I might have on the "old MMP". I suppose it belongs in the conversions gallery. It'll show up there sooner or later, with some other goodies I've come across....

Well, it seems to have become very quiet in here lately. But I do hear many words coming from some room over on the Easterling end of the Pony.
I have not heard any words recently from Master Tubb, but still expect to. At least that is what I have been told to expect.
In the meantime Barli, could you send Nob over with an ale? I last saw him "eavedropping" over by the Easterling room!

As you should know by now, Master Ranger, The Man is not noted for the speed of his communications! My last two have gone entirely unheeded, though a reply to the first was promised many weeks ago. I think perhaps that his messengers sometimes get waylayed en route by the orcs and trolls loitering in the foothills. So, rather than drinking in here you might consider getting out there and doing what Rangers are famous for - go and do some, er, ranging. I'll give you a flask of something to take with you.

what I've heard is, that the Easterlings would be an enterprise to expensive for the company at the moment. If T.E. has approved the Easterlings or not is not known.
It may not be up to the Man deciding mabye it is...who knows? Even the wise do not know.

No, Master Elf, I have it from The Man's own lips (well, his hands anyway) that he was unhappy to see the Easterling figures produced while there was any risk of them being produced like the Dol Amroth gentlemen, i.e. cast as one-piece horse-and-rider mouldings - he's determined to see them produced as separate horse and rider figures, so that they can be mixed and matched on different mounts. At least, that was the situation as I last heard of it, quite a while back. Of course, that also fits with the economics factor wou mention, since it must indeed be more expensive to cast them as two-piece figures. But things may have changed.
As for approval from TE, that I don't know anything about.
One odd thing, though, is that so far as I'm aware, none of us here have seen any pictures at all of the Easterling 'greens' as far as I'm aware (can anyone say that they have?) - which is unusual, if they are indeed completed.

Ahhh, there is some narration to remind of about 6 months ago. The discussion about how to "fit" mithril a bit . . .:
T H E G R E E N R O O M !!!!
What a treasure, having news from The Man“s workbench . . . puhhh . . .
What a treasure for talented sculptors among us, like Mistress Wendy for example . . .
Well, The Man himself can decide feeding us with these things . . .

Huoooommmm ... as far as I can remember that Easterling range was completed quite a while ago, though before that there was some delay because of the number of mounted figures ... huommmrhuoommm ... but I too have never seen any pictures of the horde ... rhuoomm ...
separating riders from their mounts (in casting) of course is more expensive to do ... huoomm.
Not all mounted figures released in the Mithril range consisted of two parts, by the way ... huoom ... I'm not talking about the Dol Amroth knights .... hooooommmmm

I think The Man was principally concerned that separate horses and riders would enable gamers and vignette-builders to introduce more variety to their collections, and that if he had foreseen the approach the factory ended up taking he would have provided more variety amongst the horse poses.
Offline
Huooommmmm .... yes, Master Barliman ... with most of that you might be correct ... as far as I can understand ... rhuoomm ... them Dol Amrothy-knighty riders was not a release in terms of providing variety, not at all ... huoommm ... sadly with that release there was some other bad coincidence which was about the bad primer they used with that release for the first time .... rhuoommmm ...huom ... though here I would like to point out clearly that I still value the charging poses of the rather more English and Norman-based-on concepts (in terms of armour) of the Dol Amrothy-figures very much as they provided different shields, helmets and banners ... rhuoommmhuoommm ...
The way they were casted, and here you're absolutely right, and that's what The Man was concerned about, simply was that the figures, as being casted as they were, did not provide any variety at all for gamers or them vignette-building people ... rhuoommm ...
[anybody around here who could help me with me sentence structure?]
The horses' poses I would not criticize at all as they do reveil different movements in a charge ... rhuoommm ...
The concept of this variety you were referring to you will see early next year .... rhuoomhommhom ... I cannot haste, you know ... rhuoommm ... but it's not about Easterlings attacking the Shire, as you might guess ... huoomm ... hom ...
Rhhoommm ... Master Barliman, sorry, still reading? ... I dunno ... May I have one of that "YKW", please? ... rhuuoommm ... for the others (who have become rare in the Pony) ... rhuoommm ... I tried to cut it short this time: 'YKW' simply means "you know what" .... rhuoommm ... I just tried to become hasty ... huooommhuomrhuoommmm .... hom
Offline
As usual, Master Tree, the YKW is on the house - a bit like the rain at the moment. Ans thank you for the communication elaborating on my own understanding.

Rhuooommm ... ?????????? ... huomm ... alas ... there's some problem about them ants you mentioned "Ants thank you" you said? .. alas ... Master barliman, please mind that I'm not a native speaker of Breeish, as I never was ... sorry ... rhuoommm ... but let me thank you for that large-bowl-of-YKW-you-freely-gave-away-without-considering-or-charging-my-tab or-even me-for-them-coiny-things-as-you-always-did-in the past-whenever- someone-around here-such-as-me-asked-you-to-have a drink - thank you very much.
Rhuuoommm ... please do not be puzzled by me wrong word order within sentences you are used to ... nor spelling ... or in explaining matters that surpassed me brain ... rhuoommm ... trees cannot do that ... rhuoomm, that's what you should know .... huoommmm
