Re: MB560 Contest !

It is NOT allowed to costomize the Box Set. neutral
On the other side, no advantage of magnificent columns, or statues, or additional furnitures . . .

Just clearly sets   cool

Ha, Ha, Master Turambar big_smile, I shall search just to see if the answers found can be expanded on.

I will keep my fingers crossed that the flying thingies will be flying to all parts of the globe where the PPC dwell;) There seems some good support for the idea so far.

I ahve to say, that I have received the "Blue Box" !
Because it is my first "Blue Box" ( no, I haven´t ordered the UP . . .) I am full with overflowting positiv expressions.
This box design is absolutely stunning! In marketing ways absolutely perfect. Good choice, mithril !
Concerning what´s inside: ...... no words.

Re: MB560 Contest !

I also received the "White Council"-vignette yesterday. The blue box is the same as with the MX-UP. Very nice indeed. As I already mentioned over in the Pony this vignette is a real challenge for painters. Wonderful !
But what do you all think about the material of the floor and the table? I wonder. Obviously the floor has to be a kind of stone-floor, maybe even marble, as someone else suggested. Nice idea. But what about the table? I think it could be made of the same material, but a wooden table could also be possible. But does that match? Though also the chairs are wooden, aren't they?Unfortunately we don't know what material(s) The Man was thinking of.
I'm interested in your thoughts about this matter.

Re: MB560 Contest !

For me, I will go for marble floor and marquetry table.

Re: MB560 Contest !

I am still waiting for the vignette.... not received yet

as for floor and table I think they should be seen as a whole, as if the table was sculpted as an extension of the floor... I can't imagine it anything but Marble...

now marble is not necessarily white... it could be black gold striken,  white light blue striken,  red, white striken... (some porphiric design)

As I often imagined (but that concerns me alone) that the White Council may have taken place in Orthanc... (since it was supposed to be somewhat "ruled" by Saruman when he was still sane...  I'd go for Black marble.... but that's my own idea though I think I will make it black and gold striken (which is quite a challenge!) Beside, as this White Council was about dire news, having it in dark, to reflect the events may be a good way to render the mood of this council... and black marble with gold is very noble and subtile...

(the fact it is black has nothing to do with PJ movie,  Orthanc is fully made of Black stone it is a fact)

well that was my two cents about it...

Re: MB560 Contest !

Marble also come to my mind. But: a kind of marble.
Gildor´s thought about Otrthanc is very interested indeed, though I have a similar imagination.
So you are not alone Master Gildor !

Thinking clearly, nothing else would make sense as what Gildor pointed out:
Saruman was the leader of the White Council and his host was Isengard.
So- what is your imagination of the inside of Orthanc?!

Nevertheless- I think it could be somekind of "The Opposite" of the material the Tower of Isengart was build. A anti-pole.

There is something which different people know as "brazilian marble"! Google for it and you will find something blue . . . cool

Re: MB560 Contest !

It has also arrived here as well big_smile so I can get cracking on it. I am going for Orthanc (I think smile) as a setting because I had already pre-formed an idea in my mind about how I wanted the base design to look, although it does look quite Elvish to me as well.

If I can afford a second set before they sell out, it may make a good starting point for another scene that needs doing wink

P.s. has anyone else noticed that Mithril made a boo-boo regarding the scale of their figures on the box art work? A small strip of paper stating 32mm scale stuck over 28mm scale - you would have thought that they would have known by now what scale their figures are lol

Re: MB560 Contest !

It's not only pulling off that small strip, Master Ddaines. big_smile
In case you dare to pull off further you'll see the golden inscription reading "the Edman - collection" imprinted on the blue box. lol
That box was first used for Mithril with the release of the MX-UP. wink
I think the box is very nice and and gives it some exclusiveness, which is topped by the content.

Re: MB560 Contest !

As for the pattern of the floor and the table, you're guessing right, Master Ddaines. It's not only that it looks like Elvish. It definitely is.
It could be based on "Melian". Have a look at p.196 in J.R.R. Tolkien "Artist and Illustrator" by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull.
Anyway, it's good old Elvish design.   smile

P 196 is very interesting, Master Theo. As I said before, I am not quiete sure still.
Painted four faces tonight. And realised that time is running fast. So better to have some pillow talk soon . . .

Re: MB560 Contest !

So, there are some fellows here taken place in that painting competition.
There are many things to focus on. Not only priming the miniature but where to put it on? On the cork???
I came to the conclusion to drill a hole into the miniature for putting inside a steel pin.
Put the steel pin inside the cork and add some super xxx-glue.
Then you have the possibility to reach every zone with your brush . . .

Re: MB560 Contest !

This topic can also be prepared for painting battle.... I will decide about painting details once when I see figures in my hands... Thus I still have no inspiration for any comments or pictures like these ....

But part of this topic could become "Work in progress" section for this competition...
